This is the front runner for DS2 currently with DH - I like the nicknames Rick, Ricky, Rich, Richie too. I do think it seems a little grown up for a baby, however I think as he will grow up a bit - I see it as a lovely name for a man. What do people think? Thank you

I've always liked it. I don't think anyone under the age of about 60 would think of Dick as the most obvious short form nowadays.

Swiftnicola · 17/09/2020 20:39

I like it.

OhTheRoses · 17/09/2020 20:35

Both the nice Richard's I know are called Dickie. Sadly I lnow too many Richard's who have proven themselves to be dicks.

MissConductUS · 17/09/2020 20:32

It's a handsome name, go for it.

The Richard I knew the best was always Richard or Rich, never anything else. His mum called him Dick as a child but he never permitted anyone else to and to be fair he had a comedy middle name that was funnier... its a good job he loved me because I took the piss. A lot. But Richard - really love it and wish I had used it as a middle name for DS now.

Please make sure your surname is not Head. I went to school with a boy called Richard Head. 😱 you can imagine what he was called

MikeUniformMike · 17/09/2020 20:27

Yes, but only if you use the correct pronunciation, which of course is the German one.

(paraphrasing the Xavier posts Smile)

I know lots of nice Richards and a couple of Dicks. The Dicks are just Dick and retired.
The Richards are all Richard.
I can think of a Rick but not sure if he is Richard on bc.

I really like the name.

daisypond · 17/09/2020 19:40

Yes, it’s really good. I’m not keen on Rick or Ricky, though.

Costacoffeeplease · 17/09/2020 19:40

I know a couple, and all well named, dickheads!

Aragog · 17/09/2020 19:40

Mandalalorianna - to be fair I don't know of any Richard's who get called Dick, not even when younger.

DH is almost always Richard. It occasionally gets shortened to Rich but rarely. Same as our two friends called Richard. Another one I know gets Rich mainly.

I know of another who goes by Ricky, but he's the only one.

Not taught a Richard for a fair few years - think he'd be about 20/21 now.

Leah2005 · 17/09/2020 19:39

My DB is called Richard. He was always called Dicky Mint as a baby. I think it's a lovely name and so what to Dick? Really?

Jamhandprints · 17/09/2020 19:38

Rick and Ricky are lovely but I'm not ready for Richard to be back in fashion yet.

Blankexpressi0n · 17/09/2020 19:36

Sorry but I really dislike Rick and Ricky. Baby Richard just sounds funny!

Mandalalorianna · 17/09/2020 19:34

Dick. Sorry!

AllPlayedOut · 17/09/2020 19:34

I love Richard.
