Richard?

This is the front runner for DS2 currently with DH - I like the nicknames Rick, Ricky, Rich, Richie too. I do think it seems a little grown up for a baby, however I think as he will grow up a bit - I see it as a lovely name for a man. What do people think? Thank you

Lovely name! Love the traditional names. Can't go wrong!!

FolkSongSweet · 27/09/2020 20:52

It’s a great name. I’m in my 30s and know loads - none of them are known as Dick. They’re mostly Richard or Rich, and I think Richie is cute for a little one. It’s a proper solid, serious name and well overdue a comeback.

allofthetings · 23/09/2020 23:16

Blurgh name, isn't there a meme out there about there ' does anyone know a nice Richard?'

I think it's old fashioned in not a good way. Need to wait one more generation then it might come back?

Veterinari · 23/09/2020 08:06

The lion heart!
Great name and lots of great nicknames

Standrewsschool · 23/09/2020 07:50

Love it. Long overdue for a revival. Classic, solid name.

I don’t think people associate it with the Dick nn anymore, more Rich or Richie. (Plenty of children called William out there, despite the potential Willie nn.)

chromis · 23/09/2020 07:41

Its my brothers name and I think its a good strong traditional name that will soon be back in fashion.

Just don't give him a middle name of William like my parents did Hmm

Dotinthecity · 23/09/2020 06:54

I think it's a fab name. Go for it.

greenteafiend · 23/09/2020 03:38

I don't know any Richards who go by Dick or are ever called Dick. Richards are Rich or Rick, across the board. It's a great name--simple, masculine and classic. And royal!

WiserOlder · 22/09/2020 22:54

My son has a Richard in his year. He's 14.

I think it will come back. It's classic.
I cannot see Gary coming back for another 30 years.

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 20/09/2020 11:29

Richard is a fab name.
I'd go for it if I were you.

I predict in about 5-10 years there will be quite a few more Richards about and perhaps even some Garys.

LarkDescending · 20/09/2020 07:49

It’s a great name. It was popular in my generation (born 1960s) and I went to school with several Richards, none of whom was called Dick. The same goes for the 3 Richards I know now as adults, all lovely men.

Bikinib0tt0m · 20/09/2020 07:45

Richard is a classic name nobody would use Dick today (unless the are trying to be funny) not keen at all on Rick or Ricky but Richie or Rich is cute

Ghouliet · 20/09/2020 07:44

I’ve known 6 Richards and only one was called Dick and that was because he chose to use it. Coincidentally he was the only one who was known to be a dick at times!

It’s a good name.

CharlieBoo · 20/09/2020 07:40

Awful!!

changerr · 19/09/2020 21:09

Love it. And love Rick, Ricky etc.

Bbq1 · 19/09/2020 00:23

Cute and actually very unusual. I like Richie

Thisismytimetoshine · 19/09/2020 00:12

I like it. Plenty of dicks about who aren't called Richard. It's a name, not a description 🤷🏻‍♀️

bombcyclone · 19/09/2020 00:06

@Costacoffeeplease 💯

emilybrontescorsett · 19/09/2020 00:02

I like it.

Sk1nnyB1tch · 18/09/2020 21:25

I like it, was a common name for my generation in school and they were all Richie then. Probably as adults they are Richard in work at least.
I don't think people really use Dick as a nickname for it any more, I was an adult before I knew that was what Dick was short for.

averylongtimeago · 18/09/2020 21:13

My DS is Richard. We never shortened his name, though some of his friends call him "Rich ". He was born in the early'80's.
I like the name. He is a great bloke- love him to bits.

You go with the name you like- when you see your new baby for the first time, you will know if the name fits or not.

Orphlids · 18/09/2020 21:07

Oh, I think Richard is a wonderful name! I’d be absolutely delighted to meet a little baby or toddler Richard. It’s such an established name, but is so scarcely used for youngsters now that it would be wonderfully refreshing. And the fact it’s so far from cute just recommends it even more. I agree strongly with a PP who described it as a handsome name. I have a pal named Richard, late 30s, who goes by Dickie, which I love. I always think of the incredibly charismatic Dickie Greenleaf from The Talented Mr Ripley. Great choice!

GammyLeg · 18/09/2020 20:50

Love it. A kings name.

iloveyoubutilovememore · 18/09/2020 20:46

Please don’t!

Anappleaday1 · 18/09/2020 20:45

I really like it! I think it would be really refreshing to meet a baby Richard, and it will grow nicely with them.
