We’re not having a baby but I figured you all could help solve this debate between me and dh:-

Marcia:-

Mar see a or
Marsha?

Or can it be both?

Although most of us agree that it's usually mar-see-ah there is a whole other discussion about where the emphasis is

MAR - see - ah
or
Mar - SEE - ah
I think the second but would think the first is possible too and probably more common than Marsha.

Good friend called Marcia - mar - cee - ah - here in U.K.

Just checked - ‘vanishingly rare’ for her to be called Marsha here. This sometimes happens in US.

Lavenderblues · 13/09/2020 20:38

Marcia and Tricia both pronounced Marsha and Trisha. In English.

Talisin · 13/09/2020 19:31

It’s generally Mar-See-Ah in the UK and Marsha in the US.

OverTheRainbow88 · 13/09/2020 19:20

Mar CHEE A

tiredanddangerous · 13/09/2020 19:19

The one I know is Marsha. It can be pronounced either way.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 13/09/2020 19:18

I know a Mar-shya. So both of your options together really.

moonfacebaby · 13/09/2020 19:11

It’s my name - it’s pronounced Mar-see-ah.

Never been called Marsha (in the UK so I don’t think people do try to call you that here)

JordanCatalano4Eva · 13/09/2020 19:07

I think Marsha is more common for the US,in the U.K. mar see ah is more common

SEE123 · 13/09/2020 19:05

My best friend is Marcia.....
Pronounced Mar see ah

missmouse101 · 13/09/2020 18:49

Marsha, like in the Brady Bunch!

GlamGiraffe · 13/09/2020 18:48

Mar see uh

JustSaying101 · 13/09/2020 18:46

Saying that, it could be said the other way.
Similar to Tricia/Trisha, although I've never met anyone that pronounces Tricia as Tri-see-a as of yet, only Tri-sha. Tricky one!

Craddle64 · 13/09/2020 18:44

Mars see ya

Craddle64 · 13/09/2020 18:43

Mar see yah

JustSaying101 · 13/09/2020 18:40

Mar - see - a
I personally know 3 Marcia's and they all pronounce their name this way.

Scarby9 · 13/09/2020 18:38

Either.
Like Alicia - I am always being caught out by the Ali- see - a versus the Alisha pronunciations.
