@BeMorePacific @Whatsyourflava you've made my day ladies! So pleased there's some people out there who like it and can look past the associations that came long after the name. I really love it as does DH! Hope it's not too popular in my area though but it's a classic 🥰

@BeMorePacific ha! Love this reply.
I really like the name Ralph. It's on my list. The Bloom stuff wouldn't be a factor for me.

BeMorePacific · 14/09/2020 09:09

@nachthexe it’s my chosen boy name, and I know the Blume reference, and know some people use it for vomit, and it doesn’t remotely bother me... because I’m an adult.

nachthexe · 14/09/2020 06:00

Lol. Yes, penis. Sorry.
This thread is very funny. Doesn’t anyone read any more? All the new grannies are going to be totally weirded out as to why all the new grand babies are named after genitals.
The difference twenty years makes 😂

Fishfingersandwichplease · 14/09/2020 05:45

Yep another Judy Blume fan - some things you just can't forget.

MercyBodle · 14/09/2020 05:23

I love it.

Chunkyetfunky90 · 13/09/2020 20:56

My ralphie is 16 months x

Freegee · 13/09/2020 19:48

@Chunkyetfunky90 aw how old is your Ralphie?

OP posts:
Chunkyetfunky90 · 13/09/2020 14:55

I have a ralphie love the name

DramaAlpaca · 13/09/2020 14:49

Horrid name, sorry. It doesn't look nice written down or sound nice when spoken. Just an ugly name.

Freegee · 13/09/2020 14:06

Could someone send me the link of its popularity in Wales please? I'm going around in circles on ONS website

@Sunshines123 congratulations! Glad to hear you've had lovely responses to the name. I think it strikes the good balance of classic and trendy doesn't it! No penis remarks either? First I've heard of the penis connotations lol! I think I can see passed that as I love the name.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 13/09/2020 11:38

Penis here too. Sorry!

BeMorePacific · 13/09/2020 11:37

I love Ralph. xx

AllPlayedOut · 13/09/2020 11:01

It's an incredibly ugly name. It sounds like a dog barking and I also associate it with vomiting.

burnoutbabe · 13/09/2020 11:01

Penis for me as well.
Though I'd probably not think that if I met a Ralph child in person. Just of asked, in the abstract, what the name means to me.

fifteenisthemagicnumber · 13/09/2020 10:46

Sorry penis here too I'm afraid!

Sunshines123 · 13/09/2020 10:45

Love! I’m totally biased as just called my newborn Ralph :-) nn Ralphie.

I know here on mumsnet the name gets mixed reviews. We had a shortlist but so glad we picked the name when he arrived as suits him perfectly. Had genuinely such a positive reaction from people saying how much they love his name when we announced. Its great that it’s a traditional strong name but not yet so widely used so feels a bit different and have the option to use cute nn Ralphie when he’s little and Ralph when he’s older.

Freegee · 13/09/2020 10:38

That's a really good point @whatsyourflava I hadn't considered that. I agree though it stands out enough as a monosyllabic name I think. It sounds lovely with our surname so it's a real good possibility for us

OP posts:
Whatsyourflava · 13/09/2020 10:21

Other examples like Rory also 2 syllables. You get the picture hopefully.

Whatsyourflava · 13/09/2020 10:20

I think it's a really nice strong name. I think the only thing that might put me off a bit is the number of increasingly popular R names for boys at the moment like Ronnie, Roman and so on. Still I think Ralph stands out enough not to blend in - maybe as it's one syllable unlike the majority of the rest

Freegee · 13/09/2020 09:02

Yeah I like Rafe too 👍🏼 think DH would be more likely to go for Ralph though!

OP posts:
Porridgeoat · 13/09/2020 09:00

I love it but Rafe might be less out there

HeyHeyWhatever · 13/09/2020 08:59

Penis here too I'm afraid

DoubleDolphin · 13/09/2020 08:51

I know a Ralph, but I'm not keen on the name to be honest.
