Noah and Isla

Spent alot of time browsing the forum but never been brave enough to post.
I have a 5 year old called Noah.
We are expecting another little bundle of joy. We haven't found out the sex yet, but we intend to do so.
Popularity isn't a major concern for us. We choose names we like regardless of popularity.

We have a boys name set in stone but we are unsure of a girls name. The girls name we loved has been used by a friend. No animosity, her baby was born first and we don't own the name. Please don't say use the name anyway, we don't feel comfortable with this.

I have been thinking about the name Isla. The meaning of Island in Spanish and Scottish appeals to me.

But I'm worried Noah and Isla might be too similar sounding. What do you think? Should I be concerned about this? Also, what do you think of the name Isla? Please make comment based upon the name itself rather than focusing on the "too popular" comments which are frequently seen on here for any top 100 name. Thanks.

I like Noah and Isla together! Great pair.

If not..... if it's the "I" sound you like how about Imogen

If it's the "a" ending how about Nina or Willa or Martha or Delilah or Cora

I like them together. I know a sibling pair named Noah and Iris so it reminds me of them

Isadora2007 · 12/09/2020 20:44

A bit too same-y for me with the ah sounds at the end sorry.

I think the name Isla is very pretty, the fact it’s popular takes the shine off it a bit for me but as that isn’t an issue for you I think it’s a lovely choice. I don’t think it’s too similar to Noah, although the endings are similar the initial and vowel sounds are different enough. No one would bat an eye-kid at siblings called Harry and Alfie or Charlie and Molly etc so think if the beginnings are different sharing the end sound is fine.

I think they are fine together, but you could use Ailsa if you think they are too similar. Similar meaning (in the Scottish connection anyway).

Both names are fine. I wouldn't choose them because of overuse, but you are ok with the popularity.
Does it go with the surname?

As regards meaning, it is nicer than Ennis(girl), but Innes (boy) is nice.
