Noah and Isla

Spent alot of time browsing the forum but never been brave enough to post.
I have a 5 year old called Noah.
We are expecting another little bundle of joy. We haven't found out the sex yet, but we intend to do so.
Popularity isn't a major concern for us. We choose names we like regardless of popularity.

We have a boys name set in stone but we are unsure of a girls name. The girls name we loved has been used by a friend. No animosity, her baby was born first and we don't own the name. Please don't say use the name anyway, we don't feel comfortable with this.

I have been thinking about the name Isla. The meaning of Island in Spanish and Scottish appeals to me.

But I'm worried Noah and Isla might be too similar sounding. What do you think? Should I be concerned about this? Also, what do you think of the name Isla? Please make comment based upon the name itself rather than focusing on the "too popular" comments which are frequently seen on here for any top 100 name. Thanks.

I like Isla. Have you considered Ishbel? Pretty Scottish version of Isabel.

Noah and Isla sound fine together.

I knew sisters called Isla and Iona, both naked after Scottish islands.

Noah and Isla sound lovely together. Not too similar. Love Juliet too but not keen on Isabel or Jemima. There are 11 or 12 Izzies we now of all the same age at school, all with varying Isobel/ella/al. I’m just sick of hearing it as it’s actually a nice name. Jemima is fine just not my favourite.

I think they're a great combination. They have a similar vibe and sound good together.
I really like Jemima too and I think the NN Jem is actually lovely. I think it goes well with Noah as well.
I like the name Juliet but not convinced it goes as well.
Isabel is fine but I think Isla and Jemima fit better.

There is that with Jemima, but I quite like Jem, @anonymous1989, but Mima is awful.

You can shorted Isabel to Isbel in speech, like if I say Elizabeth quickly it is just Lizbeth.

Isla will prob be I or Isle.This is where half of MN disagrees with me and start posting that their Isla never gets her name shortened but I know some Ians shortened to E.

Juliet could shorten to Jet, at a push.

Skye or Iona are more Scottish island girl's names you could use but I really like Isla!

I think Isla and Noah sound great. I have an Isla and a Clara and had similar reservations but we’ve had lots of comments on how well the names go together. Much more important to go with the name you love the most!

My only concern regarding Jemima, is will she inevitably become Jem?
Juliet I'm worried about the "where is romeo" thing.
Really like Isabel but not keen on Issy/Izzy. Would like to use Isabel as far as possible.
Hence why I drifted more towards Isla as its less likely to to be shortened.

Jemima, Juliet - both much nicer than Isla, and I like Jemima enough to have considered using it. Juliet looses points because I don't like Jules or the way some say it as Jullie Ette
Isabel - lovely amnd classic but I don't like Izzy, and there are so many Isabels, Isabelles and Isabellas.

I would choose Jemima, without any doubt.

I like Jemima best of your other options. I don't like Juliet as it'll get shortened to Jules. Isabel also nice.
I'd stick with Isla or Jemima. Both sound lovely with Noah

Thank you all.
The other names we have been considering are Jemima, Juliet and Isabel. We have some reservations about Jemima and Juliet given they are relatively uncommon compared to Noah.

The fine together. Nothing exciting (to me) but definitely the type of names I expect to hear as a sibset these days.

Lovely name and I think they both go really well together actually. Had Isla on my list but a friend got there first unfortunately. Loved the idea of Izzy as a potential nn.

I think they sound fine together, and I love the name Isla. Popularity hasn't taken the shine off it for me, I still think it's such a lovely name (and slightly regret not using it myself!)

@MikeUniformMike Yes it does go well with the surname.
@BillysMyBunny Thank you for the reassurance regarding the matchiness. Been practising saying both names together throughout the day and they seem to roll off the tongue nicely.
@Whatsyourflava Thank you. Im afraid none of the names you suggested really appeal to me. Sorry.
@Ferrylass Thank you. That is very reassuring to hear. Noah is meant to be hugely popular but we've only met 3 or 4 in a variety of different settings since my son was born. So its all relative I think.

I have an Isla and absolutely love the name!
When we picked it it was the most popular name in our area (we're in Scotland), she's now five and we've only ever come across one other Isla!
I think Noah and Isla are lovely together 😊
