Is Denham too out there?

Currently pregnant with baby #7 🤭
We aren't sure of the gender yet but Dennis is also on our boys list. I really like the nickname Denny but I feel like Dennis is too harsh and doesn't go with our last name. DH had a friend is school called Denham and I have mixed feelings about it. Opinions and suggestions appreciated!

Another here who thought of Matt Berry in the IT crowd.

Why not just call him Denny?

Denham is pronouced quite similarly to Denholm for most people - they'll still hear Denim.

I'm not a fan of the Jaden Kaden Hayden route either, sorry.

Plussizejumpsuit · 12/09/2020 16:27

Sorry sounds made up and therefore a bit tacky.

Scarby9 · 12/09/2020 16:25

I forgot Aiden (Aidan)

IVflytrap · 12/09/2020 16:24

It makes me think of the oddball boss in the IT Crowd (Denholm Reynholm!) and denim.

I actually like Dennis, and don't think it sounds harsh at all (I think of names with sharp Ts or Ks as being harsh, not names with Ns and Ss). If you don't want Dennis, I would go with Denny.

ZebraKid71 · 12/09/2020 15:41

Denholme is also an area of Bradford. Not pronounced Den-am, more how its spelt.

I prefer Dennis to all of the above suggestions.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 12/09/2020 15:24

My first thought was that must be a place name.

TwizzledTurkey · 12/09/2020 15:23

Dunelm or Denim

Scarby9 · 12/09/2020 15:18

Other options:
Boden (probably not)
Caiden
Elden
Holden
Jaden
Kaden
I like Denzil, but Denholme has a good ring to it too.

SummerSummerSummertime · 12/09/2020 15:13

Dunelm 🤣

SummerSummerSummertime · 12/09/2020 15:12

Makes me think of Denim
And Dirty Den
No just no.

snowstorm2012 · 12/09/2020 15:06

Thought this was going to be a post about Denham near where I live!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/09/2020 15:04

It is a very naice place in Bucks, with a golf club so smart that it has its own railway station.

Ellmau · 12/09/2020 14:49

What about Denzil?

hauntedvagina · 12/09/2020 13:56

@Judashascomeintosomemoney

Slightly different spelling but reminds me of Denholm Reynholm from the IT Crowd Grin. But, actually, joking apart I think it’s quite nice, different and not too out there. There was an actor, also spelt Denholm (Elliot) so maybe that spelling is more usual.
I came here to say this.

Watch out for irregularities in the pension fund Wink

ShrimpSymphony · 12/09/2020 13:50

Only if you have Gene as the middle name

SherlocksDeerstalker · 12/09/2020 13:49

Dennis was my great grandad’s name, nicknamed Denny, and he was a fantastic chap and the best of men. Go with it if you love it. Nobody else’s opinion really matters.

TinaTraybake · 12/09/2020 13:49

Hadn't heard of the spelling Denholm before but if that seems the more expected spelling I could use that. I hadn't considered names ending with Den but that has given me more to think about now. Thank you!

Denholm just makes me think of Dunelm. But you do you 🤷🏻‍♀️

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/09/2020 13:44

Surely Denholm (which is a fabulous name, btw) would be the more expected spelling?

toomanyspiderplants · 12/09/2020 13:42

Lol, I thought you meant the place. yes I like it

MsWonderful · 12/09/2020 13:41

I thought if Denholm Elliott too. A great actor. I like the name because of that Association

icedaisy · 12/09/2020 13:41

And Denholm is a wee town, village outside Hawick in the Scottish Borders

MikeUniformMike · 12/09/2020 13:39

Not out there at all, but have you considered Ruislip?

Soubriquet · 12/09/2020 13:38

Denim...

Love51 · 12/09/2020 13:30

I thought of Matt Berry saying it in the IT crowd. It is a fine name.
