Is Denham too out there?

Currently pregnant with baby #7 🤭
We aren't sure of the gender yet but Dennis is also on our boys list. I really like the nickname Denny but I feel like Dennis is too harsh and doesn't go with our last name. DH had a friend is school called Denham and I have mixed feelings about it. Opinions and suggestions appreciated!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Some people are so narrow minded on here.

Denholm is a perfectly acceptable name. I knew one 20 odd years ago, it’s pronounced slightly differently to denim so I really don’t think people would be confused. I think it’s a lovely manly sounding name.

If Denny is the version you want to use OP then maybe Denbigh would also suit? I wanted it as a middle name for my DS for personal reasons but couldn’t fit it in without leaving him saddled with a ridiculously long set of names.

Go with Denholm Smile

TheVanguardSix · 13/09/2020 07:43

I really love the name Dennis spelled Denys, as in the great British architect Denys Lasdun. Denys is classy.
I like Des as a NN.

micc · 13/09/2020 07:41

I went to school with a Denholm!
I remember being like eh? Haha but he wasnt picked on for it, now looking back it sounds really cool :)

MeMeMeYou · 12/09/2020 22:48

Stick to Dennis. Or the french version like in the Blondie song, Denis (‘Denee’)

Tempusfudgeit · 12/09/2020 22:32

Faaaaaaaaaaattttthhhhhhheeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrr!

TinaTraybake · 12/09/2020 22:27

@Viletta I really like Ronnie and Ron! I like the name Denver aswell and I like your point - at the end of the day if we do decide to go for Dennis/Denham/Denholm/Denver we'll most likely call him Denny more often than the full name

Albgo · 12/09/2020 21:54

Slightly different spelling but reminds me of Denholm Reynholm from the IT Crowd

@Judashascomeintosomemoney - first thing I thought of too.

Viletta · 12/09/2020 21:49

Eden?

Bollss · 12/09/2020 21:49

Yep I thought it crowd too but I do like the name actually!

Viletta · 12/09/2020 21:47

I really like Denny and Den! I'm in a similar boat, we like Ronnie and Ron and now trying to figure out which long name to go for Ronald or Myron...

Maybe dig what other full names can fit? Denver? My Mum chose a full name for me that she didn't love so she can use the short version but grew to like my full name with time. I think Dennis is a cool name. Denham is unusual, end of the day who cares what his full name is if you're going to call him Denny.

Also don't get disheartened by some harsh comment here 🙄

Graymare · 12/09/2020 21:46

Completely agree with Firebird83.

Firebird83 · 12/09/2020 21:38

Just go with Dennis nn Denny

TheRosariojewels · 12/09/2020 19:47

I know someone with the surname Denham. I would have thought Denholm is a surname too.

TheRosariojewels · 12/09/2020 19:44

Are Denholm and Denham really pronounced the same? I wouldn't pronounce Denholm the same as Denham.

shreddednips · 12/09/2020 19:17

It's not normally my type of name but actually, after saying it to myself over and over, I really like it. Prefer the Denholm spelling. Not keen on Kayden etc, although Hayden is alright.

MikeUniformMike · 12/09/2020 19:09

Don't spell it Denis. The temptation to turn the D into P ...

LastDaysOfSummer · 12/09/2020 19:03

I immediately thought of the place Denham. Please don't

Flappingflamingo · 12/09/2020 18:17

Don't like it at all I'm afraid. I do however like Denny and I don't think Dennis is awful to call a child, but I prefer the Denys spelling, it was my grandpa's and I've never come across another one yet

ImHungry1989 · 12/09/2020 17:57

Too much like denim

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 12/09/2020 17:14

If I heard someone introduce themselves as Denham I’d definitely assume it was spelled Denholm - it’s an uncommon but legit name - I happen to know someone with that name irl as well as Denholm Renholm in the IT Crowd and the late Mr Elliot.

Fantabulous1 · 12/09/2020 17:10

I think of the town Denham...On the plus its next to Chorleywood and one of the posh areas in Hertfordshire !

Undies1990 · 12/09/2020 16:39

I rather like it Smile

emmathedilemma · 12/09/2020 16:30

It’s just a bit too made up and chavy for me and sounds like you want to say Denim. Also Denny is a not particularly nice place near Falkirk!
