Is Denham too out there?

Currently pregnant with baby #7 🤭
We aren't sure of the gender yet but Dennis is also on our boys list. I really like the nickname Denny but I feel like Dennis is too harsh and doesn't go with our last name. DH had a friend is school called Denham and I have mixed feelings about it. Opinions and suggestions appreciated!

I knew a Denham at school. It never occurred to me to think it was unusual.

unmarkedbythat · 21/09/2020 10:51

There's a girl in ds3's class (reception) called Denim. Like the jeans. I assumed he had misheard, kids do, but I checked the name on the peg last year when we were still at the escorting into the cloakroom stage, and it's true. She's called Denim.

MaryShelley1818 · 21/09/2020 10:48

Awful.....denim/dunelm/Debenhams

The suggestion above of Aaron is much nicer.

midnightstar66 · 21/09/2020 10:34

Denholm is a town in the Scottish Borders so that would raise a few eyebrows here. It's pronounced Den-um rather than Denim.

HasaDigaEebowai · 21/09/2020 09:41

It's my family member's middle name. But that's because its a family surname.

NotExactlyMrsCurrentAffairs · 21/09/2020 09:36

I went to school with a lad called Denny in the 80's.
Denny was his full name, I've never met another Denny since.

Beamur · 21/09/2020 09:28

I knew a Denham at Uni. The similarity to Denim never occurred to me.

user27378 · 21/09/2020 09:26

What about Devon? As in, Devon Sawa.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 21/09/2020 09:24

I would use Denver, nn Denny.

Never heard of Denham or Denholm.

I knew a baby Dennis once. It never got shortened to Denny or Den though.

I definitely like Denver best.

CormoranStrike · 21/09/2020 09:21

I would use Denholm or Denver.

Kittykatmacbill · 21/09/2020 08:56

I have an relative called denham named after a village in the Scottish Borders, always called Den. It’s perfectly fine but expect to spend your life spelling it.

middleager · 21/09/2020 08:41

When I think of Denny, I just think of Eastenders.
Never heard of your original spelling and misread it as Debenhams.

Denholm is the spelling I'm familiar with, but it will still be said as Deni/um by those familiar with the name or Den-holme by those who are not. I prefer your suggestion of Denver.

TinaTraybake · 21/09/2020 08:33

It's interesting to know that other people know Denhams/Denholms

I thought it was DebenhamsGrin

EmmaGrundyForPM · 19/09/2020 03:55

I know someone called Denham. I think it's a nice name and have never thought of it being mispronounced as denim.

Cecelori · 19/09/2020 03:43

Ronnie is your best suggestion out of them all, followed by denver all of the others are bad sorry, if you go for Ronnie but want a full name, Aaron, aron, or Ronald are suggestions x

TeddyDahlia · 18/09/2020 12:59

I went to uni with a guy called Denham but everyone just called him Jeans.

percheron67 · 17/09/2020 16:52

Surname.

tywysoges · 17/09/2020 16:26

I came here to say it sounded like a place name so I’m happy to find out it actually is Grin

Gazelda · 17/09/2020 16:18

I'd assume you'd conceived the baby in the town of the same name.

JorisBonson · 17/09/2020 16:09

@Judashascomeintosomemoney

Slightly different spelling but reminds me of Denholm Reynholm from the IT Crowd Grin. But, actually, joking apart I think it’s quite nice, different and not too out there. There was an actor, also spelt Denholm (Elliot) so maybe that spelling is more usual.
Was just coming on to say this! 😂
mumtobabygilrl · 17/09/2020 16:07

I grew up in Denham, Buckinghamshire - it's a no from me

custardbear · 13/09/2020 08:18

You can shorten Cameron to Ron or Ronnie

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 13/09/2020 08:12

I teach a Denholm it's pronounced more Denum than Denim. I think it's a nice name.

DidoAtTheLido · 13/09/2020 08:06

Denholm / Denham,, they just sound so old man.

But Denholm if you must.
