Both are nice and totally inoffensive. Oliver Jack or Jack Oliver would sound nice.

earthyfire · 26/09/2020 22:40

Oliver but it is SO popular now. My son is an Oliver, I still love the name and it wasn't so popular when I named him or so I thought...in his class at secondary school he is one of four Oliver's! My son is far from drippy or wet!

tatasa · 12/09/2020 13:41

Jack, hands down.

Firebird83 · 12/09/2020 11:23

I prefer Jack.

MinaMurray · 12/09/2020 10:29

I prefer Jack. I prefer the way it sounds, and also I’m not keen on Ollie as a nn.

As far as the common surname goes, ok, chances are he’ll run into other Jack Smith’s (or other common surname), but on the plus side that would give him a degree of anonymity on social media etc which I don’t think is necessarily a bad thing.

And giving him an unusual middle name (such as your maiden name?) would cut out most administrative mix ups.

ClinkyMonkey · 12/09/2020 10:28

Don't pick Jack. I have a Jack and have decided there are enough nowGrin.

4amWitchingHour · 12/09/2020 10:21

@Papaduck

Jack. Oliver is very wet, it’s the name for a drippy, wimpy, feeble little mummy’s boy right along with Benjamin.
What's wrong with drippy, wimpy, feeble little mummy’s boys? Prefer them over judgemental sexist wankers.
Marlena1 · 12/09/2020 10:17

Jack, I like both though.

Susiesue61 · 12/09/2020 10:10

Jack 😊 Mine is lovely!! I think he was the only one in his year at primary school and he doesn't have any mates called Jack now (he's 20) There are loads of Ollies about

Whatsyourflava · 12/09/2020 10:06

Just give him an unusual middle name. Sorted

Whatsyourflava · 12/09/2020 10:05

No Jacks or Olivers locally to me funnily enough. I know two boys called Fox and two called Wolf though

SeanCailleach · 12/09/2020 09:58

Can't go wrong with either. Go for it.
He will be known as Ollie A or Jack B due to there being at least one and possibly six other kids with same name in every class.

nicslackey · 12/09/2020 09:54

Jack, no question

Papaduck · 12/09/2020 09:52
@Dyinginsideatthecringe don't keep looking if you like those best! Who cares what other people think. They're both lovely, doesn't matter what your surname is.
I completely agree that others' opinions don't really matter, but it is important to consider the implications of your child's name and a very common surname plus one of the two most popular boys' names of the last twenty years will mean that OP's son would find himself in the middle of some administrative mix-ups over the course of his lifetime. There are plenty of ways to make the name more distinctive while still using Jack or Oliver, as suggested above - a distinctive or second middle name, or double-barrelling the surname, for example.

mumsymummum · 12/09/2020 09:48

@Dyinginsideatthecringe

Sadly my married name is very common, my maiden name was unusual haha I don't really like any other name Shock I'll keep looking! That's for the feedback guys
Could you give your maiden name as a middle name so the full name sounds a bit more unusual?
Spied · 12/09/2020 09:42

I like Oliver Jack together.
I'd use both.

queenmother · 12/09/2020 09:42

Jack

seriousandloyal · 12/09/2020 09:40

Much prefer Jack

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/09/2020 09:40

Double-barrel?

Honestly, neither unless you have a very unusual surname. If not, please consider giving him an unusual middle name or even two middle names so that he has an extra initial. You will save him from a lifetime of administrative confusion.

Whatsyourflava · 12/09/2020 08:09

Love both
Can't pick

Anappleaday1 · 12/09/2020 07:48

Jack. I like both but less keen on Ollie, which is likely with Oliver in the future.
