Rae/Rainee for a girl?

I don't know why but I really like the name Rae for a girl (pronounced Ray).
Does Rae sound too much like a nickname?
I was thinking we could always double barrel or have a middle name that flows well.

I feel like Rainee may have a bit of backlash once she's older.

DD1 is called Grace.

We don't know if we're having a boy or girl yet but really loving Rae!

OP posts:

My friend has a Rae but her full name is Raelle which i think is nice

Ellmau · 10/09/2020 13:54

Rainee will have issues with spelling all her life. Rae is better although I take PP's point about sounding a bit too similar to Grace..

What about Wren?

Rayna
Ramona
Regina

orangenasturtium · 10/09/2020 13:05

Rae is okay but it is a bit like Mae/Rose/Louise, every other little girl has it as a middle name or tagged onto the end of a double-barrelled name. I think it will date badly.

I think you are right about Rainee leading to teasing.

How about Rayna, nn Rae?

Aebj · 10/09/2020 12:51

I know an adult Renee who is lovely and a lovely little girl called Reign

Tardigrade001 · 10/09/2020 12:50

I like Rae. I'd be tempted to spell it Ray, even though it's more of a boy's name - just because I like nature names.
There's also Rea/Rhea, which may go better with Grace.
Not keen on Rainee.

MikeUniformMike · 10/09/2020 12:40

Both dreadful OP.

Figgygal · 10/09/2020 12:29

Rainee is a former drug addict and prostitute in EastEnders
It’s short for Lorraine

It’s not a good choice

movingonup20 · 10/09/2020 12:27

Choose a proper name and use Rae as a middle name? Not Rainee, will be teased whenever it's wet!

Grace is traditional, I would choose another traditional name to match or one child might be cross they have the jokey name

Theforest · 10/09/2020 12:24

Forever a Star Wars connection so would need to be ok with that

emmathedilemma · 10/09/2020 12:18

Is that pronounced as in "the weather is a bit rainy today?"
Sounds a bit ridiculous and looks like you can't spell Renee.

LadyCatStark · 10/09/2020 10:55

Rainee is ridiculous but Rae and Grace don’t work together. I like the PP’s suggestion on Reagan or Raven.

TinySleepThief · 10/09/2020 10:41

I dont think Rae works with your other daughters name, they sound too similar. So i would avoid using Rae or any name which shortened to Rae based on that.

GAW19 · 10/09/2020 10:39

I know so many Rachel's and I really dislike the name Renee, I don't know why, just one of them names I don't like haha

I love Rae! I think it's nice by itself but some names it could be short for:

Raelyn
Raven
Raegan
Rayne

RainbowRaine · 10/09/2020 10:35

I approve Grin

GaraMedouar · 10/09/2020 10:33

I like Renee - is that an option?

Dinosforall · 10/09/2020 10:32

That could get really confusing when you are calling them as they sound so similar.

Aaliyahhh · 10/09/2020 10:29

How about Rachel or Renée and you nickname her Rae?
