Rae/Rainee for a girl?

GAW19 · 10/09/2020 10:27

I don't know why but I really like the name Rae for a girl (pronounced Ray).
Does Rae sound too much like a nickname?
I was thinking we could always double barrel or have a middle name that flows well.

I feel like Rainee may have a bit of backlash once she's older.

DD1 is called Grace.

We don't know if we're having a boy or girl yet but really loving Rae!

I think people would laugh at the name on Rainy days.

Grace and Rae are too similar. Think G-Rae-sss. Have you thought of using Rae with Grace? As a middle name Rae would be fine as it is and I think it's far preferable to Mae/May/Mai which is everywhere.

Spirael · 12/09/2020 11:47

Rae/Ray may not be shortened... But it's likely to get morphed into the cutesy "Ray-ray" by some people.

thedancingbear · 11/09/2020 18:50

As long as your surname is not ‘Day’ then it’s fine...

paperandfireworks · 11/09/2020 18:48

Rheya is a legitimate greek name (I think)

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2020 18:32

like Trainee without a T

EasternDailyStress · 11/09/2020 18:11

Rainee is horrible, both in pronunciation and in spelling. And meaning, come to that. Please don't.

MikeUniformMike · 11/09/2020 18:10

Princess Di's step-mum was called Raine.

Quizeerascal · 11/09/2020 17:41

Love it as a nn for Aureilia, just about works as a name on it's own but perhaps too similar to Grace

gerispringer · 11/09/2020 06:17

We have a Rae in the family, She’s now 16 and loves her name. You can’t shorten it .

MercyBodle · 11/09/2020 05:24

Out of your options I think just Rae on its own is the best way to go. Rainee is pretty awful, sorry. Raine is fine, but not much point if she is actually just to be called Rae. I don't mind Raven, Rachael and have come across a Raewyn. Though I think Rae is best in your case.

MrsKellySeveride · 11/09/2020 03:17

One of the most amazing women I know is called Raynie Smile

Torvean32 · 11/09/2020 02:25

My friend has a daughter with the middle name Rae.

I dont like Rainee , she would be teased mercilessly.

Kokeshi123 · 11/09/2020 02:25

"Reina" (Spanish for "queen") is a very nice name. "Raine" as in Raine Spencer is tolerable. "Renee" (is that what you are trying to do, with "Rainee"?) is not ludicrous but does sound very dated.

"Rae" sounds like a middle-aged bloke regardless of how you spell it, and "Rainee" is just ridiculous--like "Rainy" spelt in a silly way.

tabulahrasa · 11/09/2020 02:23

Rae is fairly common in Scotland, it’s one of those names that really dates people, younger than Brendas but older than Karens.

I mean, it’s not unpleasant in itself or anything - but I’ve met lots around about the same age and none younger.

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2020 02:07

I used to know a Rayner, shortened to Rae.

Dillydallier · 10/09/2020 23:09

Freya nickname rae?

Aurelia nn Rae?

Soraya nn Rae?

These are some names which may stretch to give nn Rae.

user1493494961 · 10/09/2020 22:59

Both awful. Grace is lovely.

diddlediddle · 10/09/2020 18:31

Rae is the middle sound in Grace, which is probably subconsciously why you like it.

I think truthfully you know Rainee is a terrible name that will date and/or pigeon hole her in a rather unfortunate way.

Raina
Reina
Rain

All nice

RedRumTheHorse · 10/09/2020 17:47

Rae people will think it is a nickname or part of her name is missing. Apparently it is Scottish for "Grace" So you would have two daughters called "Grace".

There are other names meaning "queen" than Rainee which the piss can't so easily be taken:
Reina
Rani
Rhiannon
Raina
Reina
Reyna
Regina

Rayna (means counsel or song)
Raegan (means impulsive apparently)

Crankley · 10/09/2020 16:47

Both awful, sorry.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 10/09/2020 14:31

I actually like Rainie but spelled like that. Double ee ending doesn't look good.

EggyPegg · 10/09/2020 14:25

Raelle is pretty, written down but could possibly be mistaken for a double barrelled Rae-Elle.

EggyPegg · 10/09/2020 14:24

I'm a Rachel that was shortened to Rae in my teens.

You say you know lots of Rachel's. But how old though? It's fairly unusual for this generation at the moment. I know sisters who are about 7 and 9 called Sarah and Rachel, and I was struck by how unusual that choice was.

TweeBree · 10/09/2020 14:23

Andie MacDowell (4 Weddings and a Funeral) has a daughter called Rainey.

DoTheMaccaroni · 10/09/2020 14:23

I haaaate Rainee but I know of a Raeya. However I much prefer it spelt Raya. How about that?
