A bit out there...

My husband (who never has any baby names ideas EVER) has come to me with 'Quill' for a boy.

Am I crazy to actually like this for a name? All I can find about it is that it's potentially Irish and maybe short for Quillan/Quillon.

I would also worry that this baby could have a 'strange' name compared to the other two.

Thoughts?

But reserve it as a middle name and have a slightly more conventional first name.

That would be a shame as middle names never get used. Most people don't k ow their friends or colleagues middle names!

Quill or Quinn are great first names.

Lebkuchenlovers · 09/09/2020 13:47

I like it but like Quinn even more!

Agree that Q is a great initial.

Luckingfovely · 09/09/2020 11:42

I like it!

NerrSnerr · 09/09/2020 11:37

Makes me think of the film Quills.

TheChristmasPrincess · 09/09/2020 11:00

Quill is kind of cool and quirky...I really like it. But reserve it as a middle name and have a slightly more conventional first name.

SingingInTheShithouse · 09/09/2020 10:43

I really like it, Quinn is similar & probably more known though

user1493494961 · 09/09/2020 10:38

If his siblings have more mainstream names, I would choose something to match there's, I think something like George, Alice and Quill would sound odd.

Astronica · 09/09/2020 02:42

I quite like it, but would be put off by the comic connection. I know a young Gwyl (not Welsh) for similar sounds.

MrsApplepants · 08/09/2020 22:45

I like it

Bananarana · 08/09/2020 22:14

There were 5 Quillans born in 2018.

I like it.

Firebird83 · 08/09/2020 22:14

I like Quillan and it could be shortened to Quill

Tillygetsit · 08/09/2020 21:33

Quillan is quite cool.

ButterflyRuns · 08/09/2020 21:06

I like Quillan.

PablosHoney · 08/09/2020 21:05

Fountain pen?

Bananarana · 08/09/2020 17:49

And Q is a cool initial!

Bananarana · 08/09/2020 17:49

Apparently Quill is a boys name, short for Quillan (Irish).

As others have said, Quinn is well known, as is Will so why not?

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 08/09/2020 17:44

I like it. I didn't even think of the pen association or Guardians of the galaxy.

Itsrainingnotmen · 08/09/2020 17:44

My dd has just given her new arrivals Marvel names...

Grufallosfriends · 08/09/2020 17:43

I like it but prefer Quinn.

I have a Quentin who often goes by Quinn.

whatausername · 08/09/2020 17:37

Only if you name the siblings ballpoint, rollerball and fountain. Or pencil, stylus and pen but tbh I'm not a huge fan of pen.

RuthW · 08/09/2020 17:36

Love it. I knew an Aquilla once.

countrystumpkin · 08/09/2020 17:25

Ok this makes more sense. He's a marvel fan 🙄😂 here's me thinking he actually came up with a name himself! Thanks for letting me know !

Gotta be a marvel fan

I’m sure he won’t be the only Quill in existence but honestly, I’m not sure it’s a good every day name

Even the main character was Peter Quill not just Quill

HeavyDeuty · 08/09/2020 17:19

Quiller is a name and Quill could be the nn?

Alarae · 08/09/2020 17:18

Are you prepared for the 'are you a marvel fan?' questions?

I would personally steer towards Quinn. Obviously there is Harley Quinn, but I feel the name isn't overshadowed by it. Yet.
