Full name for Ron

Hi there, we've settled on Ron (Rony, Ronnie) as the name for our son but I want a full name. He'll be British/Slavic/Greek origin.
So far I've got
Ronald (Mc Donald?)
Ronan (too Irish?)
Myron (rhymes with Moron?)
Cameron (meh)
Roland (like the name but don't think it can be shorten to Ron)

I don't want to use Ron as a full name as culturally in Slavic countries you should have a full name. Any thoughts and ideas would be massively appreciated. Thank you!

Has to be Ronald, really, I think.

I googled out of interest and "Rögnvaldr" is my new favourite name :)

BabyLlamaZen · 07/09/2020 14:00

Ronald is lovely and due a comeback.

Soozikinzii · 07/09/2020 09:56

I like Byron I taught a Boy called Byron and thought it was a lovely name . I also like Aaron Ronan and Roman . It's up to you how you shorten it . I think any rules on names went out long ago ! Think of some of the ridiculous names you hear !

Sk1nnyB1tch · 07/09/2020 09:51

I think Ronald is best for Ron.
Ronan is pronounced Row(your boat) nin.
So it doesn't automatically shorted to Ron, much more common to become Ronie.

PuppyMonkey · 07/09/2020 09:50

I hereby decree that Ron is a full name even in Slavic countries.

There. It’s written down now so it must be true.

PuppyMonkey · 07/09/2020 09:49

Yes it is though.Confused

Morfin · 07/09/2020 09:46

@PuppyMonkey

If Ron is the name you like, just use Ron. I don’t get having to give him a horrible long name just because you think there is some arbitrary rule that you have to have a “full” name.

Although Ronseal is nice.Grin

She wants to honour his heritage, it's not some arbitrary rule.

VirginiaWolverine · 07/09/2020 09:37

Oberon.

But whatever you call him, people will assume it's short for Ronald, so you should probably call him that.

BikeRunSki · 07/09/2020 09:32

Ronseal

Morfin · 07/09/2020 09:31

Ronathon

BelfastNonBlonde · 07/09/2020 09:28

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 07/09/2020 09:09

Da Doo Ron Ron?

TweeBree · 07/09/2020 08:52

What would you do with Ivy, it’s only 3 letters but an entire name - how would you get round that?

"Ives".

TweeBree · 07/09/2020 08:49

Ronaldo.

Firebird83 · 07/09/2020 08:43

Ronald

Grufallosfriends · 07/09/2020 07:18

Anyway, I prefer Ronald. Ron is a natural shortening.

Grufallosfriends · 07/09/2020 07:17

You'd call the child Ivy. Hmm

micc · 07/09/2020 07:12

@minimaxi yeah that was there idea :) I think it's a good idea, everyone is always really shocked when they find out his name is John Haha just an example you dont always have to have a predictable nn :)

MiniMaxi · 07/09/2020 07:05

@micc I think Trey might mean “three” or “third born” potentially?

OP I think Ronald is the most logical long form if you like that name. Ronan is a lovely name but depends if it bothers you about the lack of Celtic roots!

Solasum · 07/09/2020 07:02

Byron

micc · 07/09/2020 06:59

I like Roland, you can literally shorten any name to what you want. Like how some people go by their middle name. I know someone who is called John, hes the third John as his dad and grandad are John. And they call him Trey 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️🤣
I dont immediately think Ronald McDonald, I think more Harry Potter which is not a bad reference! Plus if you are literally always calling him by his NN its doesnt matter. If my DC is a girl we are going with Roxana, mainly because we like Roxy. I dont think my OH especially will ever say Roxana!! Haha he never calls our DD by her full name. I am the same as you I think it's nice to have a formal name.
