Excuse the (temporary) ignorance - is it Mee-kah or My-kah or something else? Which syllable does the stress fall on?

PuppyPowerPowder · 05/09/2020 08:12

What @DramaAlpaca said.

FelicityPike · 05/09/2020 08:11

My-kah like the Biblical guy. (And the wee boy from Heroes)

KitKatastrophe · 05/09/2020 07:58

@BingoGo

Micah = My-kah Mika = Mee-kah
Yes this is how I would pronounce both
joystir59 · 05/09/2020 07:57

If you want to pronounce a girl's name Misha then spell it that way

HeronLanyon · 05/09/2020 07:54

persipan ‘-Sha’ that’s a spanner in the works !! I’d expect that to be ‘misha’ or at a push ‘micha’

Persipan · 05/09/2020 07:50

I knew two Micah's (one male, one female) who were both MEE-sha.

LolaSmiles · 05/09/2020 07:33

My-cah or my-cuh (depending on accent) with the stress on the 'my'.

AuntieStella · 05/09/2020 07:25

my-ka, as that's how I've always heard it said by religious types, and the name is Biblical

XFPW · 05/09/2020 07:21

Definitely My-cah.

As PPs have said it’s a male name with Biblical origins - Micah was a minor prophet living in Judah. The name is derived from the original Hebrew Mikiyahu/Michaiah (various spelling options due to being translated from Hebrew) which means “Who is like Yahweh/God?”

HeronLanyon · 05/09/2020 07:05

My- ca with stress on first syllable.
Tbh it’s a name I wobble with slightly and although this is how I end up saying it my poor head goes through alternatives and flips from one or another before I dare open my lips !

Pippilangstrumpfy · 05/09/2020 07:03

Mi ca
(Mee ca)

Peachbubble · 05/09/2020 07:02

Definitely My-cah

beautifulmonument · 05/09/2020 06:35

It's My-kah
I know 2

LeroyJenkinssss · 05/09/2020 06:27

My-cuh

Why?

BingoGo · 05/09/2020 06:26

Micah = My-kah
Mika = Mee-kah

Gingernaut · 05/09/2020 06:23

I've only ever heard it pronounced My Cuh.

It's a Biblical boy's name.

daisypond · 05/09/2020 06:22

My-kah.

August20 · 05/09/2020 02:15

My-cuh (like the name Mike but with -ah added at the end). Stress on the first syllable but pretty evenly stressed really.

Carouselfish · 05/09/2020 01:58

Mike-a

elliejjtiny · 05/09/2020 01:25

My-cuh

I always thought the female name pronounced Mee-cuh was spelled Mika

mathanxiety · 05/09/2020 01:09

It's been My-kah in every church I have ever attended.

Micah was a 'minor' prophet (750-700 BCE).

sorryforswearing · 05/09/2020 01:03

Mee kha

Giraffey1 · 05/09/2020 01:01

My cah
Old Testament prophet.
Male.

NeverHadANickname · 05/09/2020 00:52

My-ka. I guess like the name Mike with an ah at the end.
