He thinks it's a really sweet name, but I'm not sure. We already have a Jasper and I'm worried Jasper and Rupert together sounds a bit posh! I like to think of Jasper as a bit more versatile and quirky. Does anyone have anything else that would work? What are your thoughts?

Other names DH likes but I've vetoed are

  • Oscar (the cat! 😂)
  • Felix (know about 3)

I quite like Atlas and Casper (I know, it's a 'no' with Jasper!) but that's it really.

Caspian?

joystir59 · 05/09/2020 08:33

Gregory
Alistair
Edwin
Rowan
Tobias
Austin
Michael
Wilbur
Gabriel
Angus
Nicholas
Arlo

Out of these suggestions I like Gregory, Alistair, Tobias, Michael, and Gabriel.
I suggest the best thing would ideally be to rename Jasper Michael and name the new baby Gabriel

joystir59 · 05/09/2020 08:30

Oscar, no, only suitable for cats.
I think Jasper and Casper would be quite fun.

joystir59 · 05/09/2020 08:27

Jasper sounds unreliable and sleazy, Rupert posh and wet. Felix is a cat's name.

veewee · 05/09/2020 00:23

I really like Rupert, it's down as a possibility if we ever have another, I don't think it's posh, but it's not 'common' either, but I really don't think jasper is posh either.

Far too Tory posh boy for my taste.

merrymouse · 04/09/2020 23:44

Rupert is fine as long as your lifestyle fits the name.

Casmama · 04/09/2020 23:38

I quite like Jasper but Rupert is so Jillly Cooper its just dreadful.
A few good suggestions on the thread - I really like Milo.

itsjakeandamy · 04/09/2020 23:34

I like Rupert. The one I know is 7 and called either Ru or Bear.
Other names that might work with Jasper...
Jasper and Rufus
Jasper and Caius
Jasper and Sebastian
Jasper and Angus
Jasper and Benedict
Jasper and Felix

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 04/09/2020 23:33

love Rupert! Wilfred maybe?

SilkCottonTree · 04/09/2020 23:03

Jasper and Otto work well together. Or Jasper and Rowan.

sunsalutations · 04/09/2020 22:56

I really dislike Rupert. Immediately puts in a posh, upper class which is fine if you want that, but it might be a bit of a burden

Tillygetsit · 04/09/2020 22:51

I love Jasper. It sounds strong and dashing to me rather than posh.
Rupert sounds sort of limp and puny. Sorry OP.

Panticles · 04/09/2020 14:59

The other Felix I know have siblings:
Conrad
Oscar
Fabian
Julian

ArdenBlue · 04/09/2020 14:55

Sorry but it's a no from me. I find it a wet sounding name. Ru and pert are two sounds that just don't work for me.
The only one I know is
known as Roo roo, he's in his 30s.

Lujie · 04/09/2020 14:10

When he was small, of our sons was dismayed to discover that other children have more than one name so we immediately told him that he was actually Fabien Rupert, not just Fabien, and he's been called that with regularity ever since . He loves the name and it's a shame that it's not actually on his birth certificate... it could be a difficult first name though

Myohmy123 · 04/09/2020 14:08

I think Rupert sounds quite good with Jasper. Ralph instead maybe?

Palavah · 04/09/2020 14:06

I think the Posh horse bolted when you named the elder brother Jasper.

I like Rupert but the 2 together do reinforce a red trouser vibe. If that bothers you then maybe go for something classic but neutral like Thomas or Edward?

BumholeJ · 04/09/2020 14:05

Rupert and Jasper work well together.
I think Leo, Robin or Hugo would also sound good.

HashtagSoup · 04/09/2020 14:04

I don’t know why but when I thought ‘Jasper and......’ my brain put Milo. So Milo is my contribution Grin

Flymetothestars · 04/09/2020 14:00

I love your taste in names!

I also like Rory which is more popular than It was so not so posh sounding

SleepingStandingUp · 04/09/2020 13:30

@HooseDilemma

A friend of mine has a Rupert and I cringe everytime. The only real nickname is Rupes which is even worse. It's ok as a cutesy toddler name, but as an adult?

The only two connotations I have are rupert the bear and his checked trousers and an Etonian toff.
