Would just be shortened to Sam, wouldn't it? But I like the full version. What do others think?

The ones I know shorten it to Sama. It's also our local taxi firm name

Onestepup · 06/09/2020 15:48

It's a lovely sounding name. I have never watched The Ring and not will most people of the next generation.

MikeUniformMike · 06/09/2020 15:16

Tamara is nice.

GeorgiaWeLoveYou · 04/09/2020 22:47

It's okay. Not amazing but okay.

I don't think it would be shortened to Sam at all.

SummerSummerSummertime · 04/09/2020 22:42

It's nice.
I really like Sabba too.

YewHedge · 04/09/2020 22:34

It makes me think of the Good Samaritan (from Samaria).

Lisa78Lemon · 04/09/2020 22:28

Beautiful

RichardMarxisinnocent · 04/09/2020 22:26

9th largest city in Russia. I quite like it as a name. I haven't seen The Ring so wouldn't associate it with that.

Sweetpopsicle · 04/09/2020 22:13

My daughter is called Simra..it means Angel from Heaven 😍

percheron67 · 04/09/2020 22:08

Excellent name for a desert. Same region as Sahara?

Elieza · 04/09/2020 22:07

I thought of the name Samsara.
I’ve not seen the Ring horror film though...

SoManyActivities · 04/09/2020 22:06

Yep, The Ring for me too.

redstringattached · 04/09/2020 22:03

Definitely The Ring.

I grew up with a Samara and she was teased about it endlessly (we're mid 20s now). I also know a 4 year old named this and it's been an occasional chat among our friend group about the unfortunate association that name carries. I personally always think of The Ring girl whenever I see the little girl and would definitely not use it but that's me.

waxofffff · 04/09/2020 21:56

There's an Aussie actress with the name who I think is the next young thing so she may make it more popular.

W00t · 04/09/2020 21:54

I only know the original Japanese Ring film, so no associations for me.
I think it's great, actually- unusual but not weird, easy to pronounce. I don't believe I personally know a Samara at all, but the ones I'm aware of are of British-Asian heritage. I think it's slightly exotic sounding, but possibly because my mind associates the sound with Sahara.

waxofffff · 04/09/2020 21:54

I know a Samara, never shortened it. Her peers won't be thinking of the Ring. Even though the films were of my time I didn't make the connection because you know everyone's name is on film/tv.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 04/09/2020 21:49

Never seen the ring, but I now want a Nissan dave!

I know a samia and a sameer

micc · 04/09/2020 21:08

Ngl my first thought was the ring!!
But it's going to be such a dated reference when she would be in school. I think it's a lovely name as well :)

Carouselfish · 04/09/2020 19:26

Damn the car people. They use so many good names! Not boy ones though (suppose because same concept for ships)...Nissan Dave, Skoda Jack, Renault Richard

LADA Samara.

Barryisland · 04/09/2020 11:36

It was the name of a car. Lads Samara.

WildCherryBlossom · 04/09/2020 11:22

I had a friend called Samara when I was little. I think it's beautiful!

SeanCailleach · 04/09/2020 10:40

I love the name Samara!

Most of the Samaras I've met have an Urdu/ Arabic heritage..

PutYourBackIntoit · 04/09/2020 10:12

I reminds me of a beautiful beach village in Costa Rica 🥰

Carouselfish · 04/09/2020 10:08

Ah, okay, I do like horror but I haven't seen that for a really long time so didn't cross my mind. Probably wouldn't be an issue until her teens and even then it wouldn't be a recent thing for her peers. I could get over that. Probably be a blondie anyway.
