Words are based on meaning and usage and the meaning of a word can be added to and changed over time. Take the word peruse which originally meant to read throughly and has come to also mean to skim through. One of the definitions of unique according to merriem-webster is unusual and MN baby name forum isn't an exam paper or police statement so I think you're fine using unique here... everyone knows what you mean especially since you added "unusual"

Our girls name choice has always been Genevieve - I adore it and think it’s so so pretty!

I’m blessed with two gorgeous boys though (well nearly, a few weeks to go for baby 2!) and am I shite ever doing pregnancy again, so won’t be using it - I still love it though!

On mumsnet's baby name generator, it says the name Jean-Baptiste goes well with the name jones : )

Ellmau · 23/02/2021 19:36

Zombie! Baby was born in September and has been named by now unless OP is really indecisive ;)

If you're still around, what did you pick?

bridgetreilly · 22/02/2021 12:50

Honestly, I would rethink the double barrelled name. Just give her two names. You can call her by both, if you like, but it will be much easier for her filling in forms and telling people her name if she just has one first and one second name.

Lois Maud Jones
Eloise Anna Jones
Eliza Faye Jones
Carmen Wren Jones

I know some are but I did ask for names but I thought there would be some I like aha

Tbf @Bellejones22, you haven't really given people a lot to go on...unique (as already established), is not accurate unless you are going to make something up which NOBODY else on the planet has ever used as a name. Pretty means different things to different people.

If you find what people have suggested not to your tastes, maybe you could give some feedback rather than "aha I don't like any of these" and not clarifying what you like or don't like 🤷‍♀️.

Lot a double name inspiration Grin

Oddly, growing up in redneck territory, all the double named people I grew up with were boys who ended up going by initials (AJ was particularly popular).

Personally I prefer names like Leanora, Mirabelle, Evelina, Bethia, Caelia, Danica, Annora that are sound kinda like doubles but aren't and tend to be more unusual that what makes up a double name. There have been other great ones already recommended like Marianne, Leonora.

Other unusual names: Abeni, Adalet, Chryssa, Halina, Reina, Amery, Deanie, Polina, Valora, Merita, Justica, Betony...

BallsToYouSue · 22/02/2021 11:24

Olive is lovely and quite unusual. Not unique or unheard of, but not EVERYWHERE.

Other nice nature names:

Star
Maple
Marigold
Posie
Rowan
Ocean
Aurora
Blue

Or something like:

Leonora
Mathilde
Clothilde
Frida
Ingrid
Briggitte

Greek names are having a moment I think. Some are nice, but some are a bit stuffy to me.

Persephone nn Percy is adorable imo, though.

I hate Athena because the birth story and paintings of her birth make me feel sick.

A lot of names which people choose to be "unique but pretty", (which sound a bit like common names, "but a bit different"), all blend together, so I would personally steer clear of these. It used to be Lyra and Lilah were the "unique but pretty" names everyone used, (so, far from unique). Now it's Elara and Elora. I always think, "they aren't unique. They are common names with el on the front"! Lyra and Lilah, Elara and Elora are just Layla, Laura, Lola and Lara for the new generation and they all blend together. That isn't an issue if you don't care about that, but if you want "unique" / "a bit different"; these aren't it!

Of course they’re going to be awful, the OP asked for unique and unusual double barrel names. It’s kind of hard not to go into redneck/hillbilly territory 😆

Even your bog standard double barrel names, like Daisy-May and Lily-Rose, are going to sound hickish if you’re choosing to go down that route 🤣

Cassia Juno Jones

Please don't use the tired old Mae/Rae/Rose as a hyphenated name. Absolutely everywhere and as dull as ditchwater.
