Sibling for Arthur & India

Baby no.3 is a girl. We have Arthur and India already. Which do you think goes best out of our shortlist? I tend to like less popular names - Arthur was picked before the huge rise!!!

Florence (maybe too popular for us)
Ophelia
Arabella
Hattie (normally prefer full names but there aren't any for Hattie that I love)
Primrose
Effie (as above re. full names!)

Thanks!

Arthur, India and Marianne.
Possibly Josephine or Melissa

macdhui · 04/09/2020 23:11

Arthur and India are lovely - like Arabella
also
Clementine
Xanthe
Annabel
Sunday
Phoebe
Camilla

Effie makes me think of Effie White in Dreamgirls. Not a terrible association as she is eventually one of the heroines of the story but I always wondered what name that would have been short for.

SallySeven · 04/09/2020 22:09

I love the name Hettie.

How about Greta nn Ettie
Edith nn Edie
Roxanne nn Roxy

SE13Mummy · 04/09/2020 21:19

Euphemia, Persephone, Josephine, Stephanie would work as longer names for Effie.

Or Effel (Ethel) depending on your accent.

SallySeven · 04/09/2020 21:11

Effie is used as a diminutive for Euphemia!

SE13Mummy · 04/09/2020 21:11

Hattie can also be short for Henrietta or Hedwig.

HunkyPunk · 04/09/2020 21:04

Your dc names have a rather 'Queen Victoria' vibe (Arthur was one of her sons, and she was Empress of India!) If you are considering other names, her daughters were Victoria, Alice, Helena, Louise and Beatrice Smile

Of the names you've shortlisted, Hattie's my favourite. Apparently, as well as Harriet, it's also a short form of Henrietta.

Trying888 · 04/09/2020 20:35

What full times would work best for Hattie and Effie, other than Harriet and Elizabeth?

Arabella and Primrose from your list,

I came on to suggest Romy.

Bobbybobbins · 04/09/2020 09:06

Like a PP's suggestion of Elodie and I'd add Eloise as another suggestion. Agree with sticking to vowel names.

BabyLlamaZen · 04/09/2020 09:06

Minerva (Minnie)?

len1234 · 04/09/2020 08:40

Florence or Arabella! Both are beautiful and go great with your other children's names.

Ophelia - Sounds like pedophilia...
Effie - Just doesn't sound nice at all to me.
Hattie - I don't hate it but don't like it either.
Primrose - It's nice but I immediately think of The Hunger Games.

pantherrose · 04/09/2020 08:31

I think Hattie is nice, but a name starting with another vowel goes better with Arthur and India. I don’t like Arabella, but Annabelle is pretty and goes well with the other two. If you like unusual names, how about Élodie?

RickOShay · 04/09/2020 08:06

I’m not hugely keen on Florence. Ophelia or Primrose are my favourites.
What about

Octavia

Marianne

Ines

Honor

Valentina

I also really like the suggestion of Constance with Coco as a nn.

Sausagedog1 · 04/09/2020 08:02

I think you should discount Florence as it's too popular for you, Effie and Hattie are nicknamey whereas Arthur and India are full names so discount those.
Arabella and Ophelia 'go'well but I personally find Ophelia way too posh and fussy, Arabella is nice but getting more popular.
My favourite is Primrose. It goes perfectly as it has a different first letter, it is never going to be super popular, it has lots of shortening options.

EriAndo · 04/09/2020 01:02

Octavia
Seraphina
Aurora
Clementine
Melody
Clara
Evangeline

itsjakeandamy · 03/09/2020 21:55

I like Hattie best of your list. I like Harriet as a full name.
I slightly prefer Hettie and love Hester as a full name.
I really like Florence but it is popular.
I'm not really keen on your other names I'm afraid.
Other names i think work with Arthur and India....
Beatrix
Cassia
Constance
Cecily
Thea
Esther
Flora
Meredith
Merryn
Tabitha

35andThriving · 03/09/2020 21:35

Arabella

Dulcie
Sally

Twerking9to5 · 03/09/2020 21:09

Love Arthur and India! I think I like Hattie best from your list as it feels like it stands on its own. No as keen on Harriet but Hattie is lovely. Two more to throw in the ring, even though you haven’t asked Grin - Emmeline (Emmy) or Madeleine?

zigaziga · 03/09/2020 20:52

Arabella is one of the fastest risers so is / will be having a bit of a moment.

SelmaB · 03/09/2020 20:44

I wouldn't go for Arabella because you already have an A name with Arthur.
I would also discount Florence because it's a place and so is India (I know this doesn't matter at all really but it seems like your girl names would be theme-y and your boy's doesn't match).
Ophelia and Arabella end in -a like India so sound a bit match-y.
I just don't like Hattie (sorry) so I would discount that.
Primrose is sweet but I like Effie best, so that would be my top choice.

villamariavintrapp · 03/09/2020 20:42

Florence is my favourite from your list. But I'd go for Miriam (I know you didn't ask!)
