Lyra Antarctica

Is what Ed Sheeran has called his first child.

I am not a fan of celeb names usually but I really like this. Lyra is unusual but not weird, easy to spell and would suit women of all ages.

Antarctica is indeed a bit unusual but I think you can get away with a more unusual choice for a middle name.

Great choice Ed and Cherry. Kardashians and rappers take note.

I am quite enchanted with Seaborn... it's so evocative of a wintry landscape with a mystic, defiant explorer.

PoodleMoth · 05/09/2020 20:44

I like it ans think they have gone for LASS on purpose as another possible nickname

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 03/09/2020 21:07

I love the name Lyra. Sadly it was already getting over popular after the Dark Materials tv adaptation and now I expect this will send it rocketing, like Harper.

Antarctica wouldn’t be my choice, but it’s fine as a middle name.

Definitely heard of far worse celeb names.

RedToothBrush · 03/09/2020 16:05

@iklboo

It spells LASS
Yep. They didn't ask MN about initals did they?

She is now just Lassy now I've realised this and I can't unsee it.

I like Antartica as a middle name though.

lynsey91 · 03/09/2020 13:20

Lyra is ok but Antarctica is awful. I really don't get the point of middle names anyway. Who ever uses them? I never ever use mine and it's not because I don't like it.

DH doesn't have one which I think was a sensible decision by his parents

PetraRabbit · 03/09/2020 13:03

Lyra is lovely but in a class of Lila, Lola, Mila, Mia, Layla, Ella, Luna etc, it will end up sounding samey.
Antarctica is a fantastic middle name. I like a middle name that has meaning (presumably this does to them) and it's fun without being embarrassing.

Autumnsloth · 03/09/2020 09:16

@ErrolTheDragon

Ack you're right! Maybe they got it wrong too? Grin

I do like the name but think would struggle as a fan of the books (as Sheeran says he is) to get past the connotations with 'liar'

Fromthebirdsnest · 02/09/2020 22:15

Lyra is lovely and from a great book ... Antarctica is a bit odd but I'm really happy for them 🙂 x

iklboo · 02/09/2020 19:35

It spells LASS

Paddingtonthebear · 02/09/2020 19:31

I work with children and Lyra is pretty popular these days. Antarctica, not so much

JamieLeeCurtains · 02/09/2020 19:18

Cruiseline Lyra Antarctica proudly presents the maiden voyage of Seaborn Sheeran. Free cheese slices on boarding.

TerrifiedandWorried · 02/09/2020 19:11

Lyra Antarctica sounds like a cruise company, Lyra Seaborn sound like one of their ships.
I actually quite like it though.

SouthWestLolly · 02/09/2020 19:09

What amount of money do need in the bank before you stop being able to tell the difference between countries/fruit and genuine child names?

Hermione Pingu She Sells Sea Shells.

This is so going to be my next username Grin.

See you on the other side @HermionePinguSheSellsSeaShells Grin
TisConfusion · 02/09/2020 18:53

I think I’m in the minority here but I don’t like the name Lyra - reminds me too much of liar.
Antarctica is just ridiculous.

Hermione Pingu She Sells Sea Shells.

It might not help that I think Ed Sheeran is a weasely, sexist nobber.

TheHappyHerbivore · 02/09/2020 16:05

Lyra is very pretty, Antarctica is stupid and ruins it for me.

lurker101 · 02/09/2020 12:53

I think it’s nice. The name Lyra has maybe got more popular/recognisable in the U.K. because of the reporter murdered in NI last year

JamieLeeCurtains · 02/09/2020 12:41

@willywillywillywilly

It sounds like a cruise liner 😄
Made me laugh.

Yes, Lyra Seaborn is wonderfully lyrical. The rest, not so much.

kirkandpetal · 02/09/2020 11:15

Kim be = lumber

kirkandpetal · 02/09/2020 11:15

Lyra is okay, Seaborn is okay and Sheeran is okay. Shoving a continent in as an extra name is just batshit. I mean why (apart for the 'touching' reference to place of conception) would you Kim be a child with that. It just screams a bit, "we're SO celeb and SO wacky"

CaffiSaliMali · 02/09/2020 10:04

I really like Lyra - it's currently ranked 150 in E&W with 342 born in 2019. In 2018 it was 142 in the chart and in 2017 it was 183. So on the up but with a slight dent in popularity recently. I expect it will rise in next year's stats as the TV series was on before Christmas.

I loved the books as a child. It's pronounced Lye-rah in the books, film and new TV series.

Not a fan of Antarctica but at least it's only a middle name. I know lots of people with awful middle names.

I agree with a PP that Lyra Seaborn would have been an excellent name.

willywillywillywilly · 02/09/2020 09:10

It sounds like a cruise liner 😄

DoTheMaccaroni · 02/09/2020 09:08

Lyra lyra pants on fyre 😂 I really don’t like the name Lyra.
