Please tell me what you think of the name Esther?

I'm not due for a few months so just getting ideas.

I really like it, husband is not sure but he doesn't dislike it, It's just not very common where we live.

Honest opinions please?

@Hooperjooper

My youngest is Esther and I love it. Unusual but everyone knows it and can spell it. We only ever get good comments and she's the only one we've ever met which makes me like it more!Grin
Don’t be too sure about the spelling. My DD has frequently had ‘Ester’ and ‘Esta’.
Toilenstripes · 29/08/2020 18:49

Awful. It’s the name of your great aunt with thick ankles and clacking dentures.

whattodo2019 · 29/08/2020 18:46

I prefer Hester

LairTai · 29/08/2020 18:45

Absolutely awful!
Sorry

serialreturner · 29/08/2020 18:36

Oneandabean · 29/08/2020 18:35

I like it, it’s on our list too 😊

Oblomov20 · 29/08/2020 18:25

No. I don't like it at all.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 29/08/2020 18:24

I love the name Esther. I lost a pregnancy between DS and the one I’m currently carrying, so we named that baby Esther in our minds.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/08/2020 18:14

A friend of mine recently called his daughter Esther. It's lovely.

SelmaB · 29/08/2020 18:01

I really like it

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 29/08/2020 17:56

It’s a lovely name. My grandmother was an Esther.

people often think I’ve said Esther when I say my daughters name.

@DoTheMaccaroni Me too! I wonder if out DDs have the same (uncommon) name.

PersianStar · 29/08/2020 17:53

I have a 2 year old Esther and I can’t imagine her called anything else.
People always comment on her name in a positive way.

maddiemookins16mum · 29/08/2020 17:28

Lovely. We nearly called DD Esther (after Judy Garland in Meet me in St Louis 😊😊).

Jwl45 · 29/08/2020 17:16

I disagree - Millie is actually my husband's grandmother's name and my daughter's. Ages nicely I think.

Esther is a lovely name.

Lavenderblues · 29/08/2020 17:13

Great name - beautiful, well known but not popular/fashionable/overused!

micc · 29/08/2020 16:58

I have a cousin called Esther!
I love it :) really pretty, and not common but not unheard of

KindKylie · 29/08/2020 16:00

I like it - it was on our list for dc3 (turned out to be a ds!) along with Etta/Ettie.

It has a similar feel to Naomi, Ruth, Jemima, Tabitha etc in that they're from the bible but not necessarily used by religious families imo.

Goodoldfashionedploverboy · 29/08/2020 15:58

Beautiful!!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 29/08/2020 15:58

It's my daughters middle name, I love it. It would be her first name but sounded odd with our surname, to my eternal sadness!

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 29/08/2020 15:57

That’s a few seconds pause, rather than a few seconds thought.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 29/08/2020 15:56

I liked the name so much that I gave it to my eldest DD.

It tends to be fairly popular when it comes up on MN naming threads. However, in RL when I would said her name there’d be a few seconds thought as people thought of a polite response, normally focussing on how unusual the name was Grin

I still love the name nearly 20 years on. And now DD is old enough not to care that she can’t buy a rather rubbish pen with her name on it, she loves it too.
