Mine is fairly common.

DS8 - in the top 5, but never had another in his class

DD7 - in the top teens

DS2 - in the top 230's

MenaiMna · 28/08/2020 13:49

According to the ONS for her birth year in England & Wales she is one of 14 with her "unusual" spelling and there were 68 with standard spelling.

RandomTree · 28/08/2020 13:47

DD's name is common (we named her after my Grandma).
DS1 and DS2's names are not particularly common but not really unusual either.

MilktheMilk · 28/08/2020 13:35

My dd has a common name, or at least it should be common as it's a top 10 name. However, we've never personally met another child with the same name as her in the past 7 years, and there is only 1 other child in her school of 400+ kids with the same name as her.

My ds has a very uncommon name yet we have met another child with the same name as him 🤷🏻‍♀️

OhTheRoses · 28/08/2020 13:29

Having been saddled with an uncommon name I absolutely agree with @baggagerack. Both our dc has classic names with no alternative spellings. Interestingly both have become increasingly popular in the last 20 years.

BikeRunSki · 28/08/2020 13:22

I’m right there with your DH @Baggagerack

Baggagerack · 28/08/2020 12:56

DS both have straight forward names that no one can mispronounce or misspell. DH has an unusual name and has considered it a pain and embarrassment all his life. I don’t think it’s that bad tbh but then I haven’t lived with it day in, day out. He was insistent on no unusual names or weird spelling.

Adelais · 28/08/2020 12:49

Dd1 uncommon, outside the top 100 but getting closer to it. It’s a name that’s mentioned lots on here.
Dd2 is very uncommon, it’s only just in the top 1000 according to the 2019 ONS data.

mintich · 28/08/2020 12:48

DDs name is not in the top100. DSs name is in the 50s on the chart

mollyminniemo · 28/08/2020 12:45

DS not even in top 100
DD name usually around 60 in name chart- still pretty uncommon judging by how many other people/girls I've met called her name

RuthW · 28/08/2020 12:24

When she was born - uncommon

Now - far too common

What a difference 24 years makes.

emwithme · 28/08/2020 11:22

DD is top 30, regularly appears on the "Classic but not common" name threads. Easy to spell, lots of different shortening choices. From what some people say you'd think we'd bump into one every other step but haven't so far. Old ladies genuinely like it!

theruffles · 28/08/2020 11:15

DC1's name is uncommon but starting to be heard more. I think it's just moved into the top 100.

The names we're considering for DC2 go both ways - uncommon if it's a girl and fairly common if it's a boy.

YgritteSnow · 28/08/2020 10:50

They weren't common when we named them, ds was barely in the top 100 when we named him but has been in the top 10 for the past few years.

DD's is in the top 100 but only just, she was in the top 50 when we named her.

Both classic names. Both teenagers.

pooopypants · 28/08/2020 10:48

Uncommon in the UK but because they're Muslim names. DS - never met another. DD - she has a girl in her class with the same name. Teachers told me they've never heard the name before my DD started there.

thewhitechair · 28/08/2020 10:37

DC1 has a top 3 name for the year they were born, but funnily enough has been the only one in their year for both primary schools they’ve attended.

DC2 has a top 20 name

LilaButterfly · 28/08/2020 10:36

DC 1 is very common. Its top 5 in the country im originally from. I think if we were living there i would have chosen a different name. Here its a well known name, but not used as much.
DC 2 was very rare when we picked the name. I know of 3 near us that were born this year though.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 28/08/2020 10:34

Mine are all heard of names. 2 uncommon though and one with an uncommon spelling

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 28/08/2020 10:33

3x uncommon (all outside the top 100 in their years of birth & have remained so)
2x common (in their years of birth 1 was in the top 10, 1 was in the top 50)
I have a common name, as does DH

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 28/08/2020 10:31

Never seen DS's name in the top 100. There are none in his peer group or at school, and it never appears in those racks of pens with names on! It's never been fashionable but it's not a 'made up' name and not so uncommon that no one has ever heard of it.

BikeRunSki · 28/08/2020 10:30

Both top 20, both have another child with their name in their class. Love it.

I grew up with an unusual name for my age, a very unusual place name middle name and a Gaelic surname, and hated it. My dc have Ben/Tom type names and a traditional English occupation surname.

EThreepwood · 28/08/2020 10:30

Both very uncommon although we found another child with DD2's name last month.

DD1: 21 called this in her birth year
DD2: 11 called this in her birth year

turkeyboots · 28/08/2020 10:27

Uncommon DD, just in the top 500. Super Uncommon DS, only 9 others in the whole UK were registered with the same name that year.

WouldBeGood · 28/08/2020 10:26

Uncommon but well known.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/08/2020 10:25

Dc1 uncommon (but is a short version of a relatively common name - think Liv / Olivia)

Dc2 uncommon (but coincidentally have an older relative with the same name)

Both are the only kids with their name in their primary.
