Mine is fairly common.

OP posts:

DS - reasonably common
DDs 1, 2 and 3 uncommon although more popular in their countries of origin

scrivette · 28/08/2020 18:17

There were 3 the year DD was born and some years there are not any.

LadyCatStark · 28/08/2020 18:17

The most common 🙈 annoyingly, I wanted an uncommon name but the only name both DH and I liked has been the most popular since he was born 🙈

AlwaysLatte · 28/08/2020 18:13

One is in the top 20 and the other is pretty uncommon, although it's predicted to be making a comeback.

SpeedofaSloth · 28/08/2020 18:09

Both mine have top 50 to 100 names from the year they were born, but we don't come across that many of the same names.

Shayisgreat · 28/08/2020 18:07

Very uncommon but according to MN it's also horrible.

Millie2013 · 28/08/2020 18:04

I've only met one child with the same name as DD (7)

MrsMop1964 · 28/08/2020 18:01

Only met one other in 16 years of dd's life, and her parents were from the same north african country as my husband, where it's a fairly common name. Our surname is uncommon too. In the last census there were 3 people with the name in the entire UK- me, dh and dd.

JustanotherTuesday · 28/08/2020 17:57

DS1 name was common in the 90's but not now, although it is extremely popular in Switzerland even though it is an Irish name. DS2 is more common and DS3 is uncommon. I have only known one other child called it due to there being two ways of spelling it and the other way seems slightly more common.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 28/08/2020 17:56

40 born last year with DS' name. 88 with the more common version so not a common name.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 28/08/2020 17:54

@Adelais yep. think the same Grin

Mine is nearly 20-very very rare back then. I love it even now!!

joystir59 · 28/08/2020 17:52

Common in his homeland, uncommon here.

IggyAce · 28/08/2020 17:52

DC1 quite common in our area, wasn’t even in the top 50 when we chose it.
DC2 very uncommon.

Theforest · 28/08/2020 17:47

One of each

MillieEpple · 28/08/2020 17:45

Both common. And common in several european countries as at that time we were living between 2 and thinking of moving to a third. We wanted something pronounceable, easily spellable and familiar.

Adelais · 28/08/2020 17:42

@mumsiedarlingrevolta It begins with a C!

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 28/08/2020 17:31

Not overly common but certainly not unheard of. Just below the middle of the top 100 range.

BiBabbles · 28/08/2020 16:50

One is really uncommon. We looked it up once on the ONS and joked how the name was in the top 3000 since she was born, just. I didn't know that when we named her, it seemed so similar to another very popular name, but get comments on it regularly.

One is pretty uncommon, top 500, but everyone has heard of it & more commonly shows up on names people hate for being very American.

The other two are common, top 150 and were far more popular when they were born. Both have dropped in popularity, but we've met very few other people in real life with their names (rather than historical figures or people on TV).

wildthingsinthenight · 28/08/2020 16:36

Uncommon. Never met another

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 28/08/2020 16:36

@Adelais wondering if your DD and mine have the same name-often mentioned on here and growing in popularity...
what does it begin with?

Oblomov20 · 28/08/2020 16:35

Both common. One the most popular name for years, which I didn't know about Because I never looked it up because we just went with DH's dad's name. When I did find out I was disappointed.

the second one is in the top 50, but much less so and we've only met two others of his name so far.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 28/08/2020 16:35

Both DS's have traditional names-one hoovers around top 10 and the other slightly less common but still in the 100.

DD name traditional but more unusual and is not in the top 100.

Sausagedog1 · 28/08/2020 16:26

Really interested to know what kind of uncommon name could be a pain and embarrassment all someone's life. Just seems quite extreme. Is the name particularly embarrassing or ridiculous?
I only say that as I have a pretty normal name but I have to spell it every time. If someone spells it incorrectly I couldn't care less. It's only important on official documents which is quite rare anyway.
I have one DS with a fairly common name (50ish) and one with an uncommon name (250ish) I wish the common one hadn't risen so much in the charts tbh.

Erictheavocado · 28/08/2020 14:18

DS 1 name was in top 100 for several years, in the last century, though as someone said upthread, I've never met another child who has the same given name.
DS 2 name and spelling has only been in top 100 twice since 1904. Alternative spelling top 100 for a few more years, but never top 50. Strangely, I have met several people with his name, usually with the other spelling. Dgs never top 100 with any spelling. I've only ever met one person with his name outside of our family.

SandyGin · 28/08/2020 13:57

All very uncommon but one has climbed slightly after someone in the public eye copied.
