Here’s the link for the name search tool that the bbc have published on their article. They did it in 2018 for the 2017 list and it was so handy and fun to use so I thought I’d share!

Twelve babies had my sons name in 2018 — I’m shocked! He may have been the only one in his birth year, as there were few enough (three or fewer) not to appear on the stats individually.
@ZoyaTheDestroyer I was really pushing for Keith for my son, but was vetoed by about five million people.

I think if you ignore the baggage it's a really nice name... 'of the forest'.
I have an uncle Keith, he was born in 1928 though :) Still alive

Keith’s time will come. In twenty years the baby groups will be full of Keiths, Pauls, and Ians Grin

MikeUniformMike · 26/08/2020 20:07

Very few with my name, and none in 2018. There were names starting with my name on the list (it's not Ann, but it compares in that it could be part of a longer name like Anna, Annabel etc)

SimonJT · 26/08/2020 19:54

These are mine and my sons name.

My name has plummeted since 1997. DS' is on a gentle decline.

DeeTractor · 26/08/2020 19:43

Wow, 6 here in Scotland and none elsewhere. My name is so 70s/80s I'm amazed tbh lol.

I got 7 boys born with my name in 2018 Hmm

One of my DC had 20 something in Ireland in 2018 called their name but the other two, no babies called their names at all.
Which is fab! Purposely chose uncommon names so nice to see they haven’t risen in popularity.

RedRumTheHorse · 26/08/2020 19:30

The tool doesn't work. It say there are no babies with my DD name in 2018 and I know from the actual ONS figures for that year there were over 100.

Jenasaurus · 26/08/2020 19:26
@Jenasaurus sorry.. the link is broken! My bad 🙈
Its odd though as it worked for my sons names just not mine, so I assumed my sons names were more popuar than mine, there were a few of me in Scotland though :)

Muser314 · 26/08/2020 19:23

I find it hard to believe there were NO babies given my name in 2018 but I really, really do not believe that there were no babies given my daughter's name in 2018!

I can only find where the names rank on darker greener. Whereas I liked being able to see how many there are with each name, not their position on the list..

Obviously I can just scroll through the spreadsheet but that takes a while when looking for rare names Confused

You need to tap or click on the graph. It’s tricky on a phone but easier on a monitor.

I’ve always found that darker greener doesn’t show how many there are by number. Am I doing something wrong? Clearly I am 🙈

Darkgreener will be updated this evening.

Dark greener usually updates his/her website pretty soon after the statistics are released. I expect it'll update this week, maybe even today or tomorrow

WoollyHeadedMammoth · 26/08/2020 17:11

I am getting England & Wales results (no idea if they are accurate) for trad boys' names:

Oliver (no 1)
Noah (no 4)
James (no 21)
Ewan (no 311)

But it claims there were no babies called Emily, Sophie, Charlotte, Evelyn, Lily, Elizabeth, or Anna in E/W in 2018. Seems unlikely.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/08/2020 16:57

Oh, is it broken?

FourTeaFallOut · 26/08/2020 16:56

So many names seem to have dropped off the radar. I'm not sure one name from my my class has survived. Joanne, Emma, Helen, Karen, Jennifer, Nicola, Lisa, Georgina - not one showing of any of them over the whole of 2018 - like a Thanos click.

Minty82 · 26/08/2020 16:54

Sorry - should have refreshed the thread before posting!

Minty82 · 26/08/2020 16:53

I don’t think it is working actually- I tested it with my daughter’s (very popular) name and it said there was no babies called that in England in 2018...
