I really love Tessa, not heard it for years. Not keen on Amy for middle name though, I’d prefer Tessa Elizabeth

EuphieKat · 27/08/2020 23:46

I have a Harri, CaffiSaliMali. Lots of boys in our area seem to be Harri not Harry.

EuphieKat · 27/08/2020 23:43

What about Lara Kate, just to mix up a couple of your suggestions (my dd is Lara Kate!).

CatteStreet · 26/08/2020 18:23

Maren Elisabeth is brilliant. I like Lora and Anna too, but obv not together. And Ellen. I quite like Lora Ellen as a combination.

Not that keen on any of your other names. Evelyn, Grace etc are rather done to death atm.

BurtonHouse · 26/08/2020 17:43

I really like Tessa Maren.

CaffiSaliMali · 26/08/2020 14:33

I have a friend called Lora of Irish origin. She does get some assumptions that her name is spelt 'wrong' though, so it is worth bearing in mind that some people will think that and make comment.

I say this as someone who has Alys and Tomos on their list. I'm well aware that some people will assume that these will be 'yoonique' spellings of Alice and Thomas. I am fully prepared with my 'Welsh spellings' retort.

I did cross Harri off my list though as I didn't like the name enough to want to have to constantly explain it. I also know a few Harriets who go by Hari which put me off further.

Tessa is my favourite name on your list. Tessa Elisabeth would be gorgeous. I think Amy is a nicer spelling than Aimee, I like the simplicity of Amy.

@MikeUniformMike we'll just have to agree to differ, on the understanding that you're wrong and have misunderstood the meaning of the Mumsnet "yoonique." Lora is a legitimate spelling and name in many countries. Lots of people here prefer Laura. That doesn't make Lora "yoonique."

OP posts:
GanderousGoose · 26/08/2020 13:45

@MikeUniformMike as I said, I can see that Laura is the preferred spelling - that doesn't make a perfectly legitimate name "yoonique" because you say so Hmm. Superiority complex, much? Nobody else here has said it is "yoonique", just that they prefer Laura - no issue with that. Additionally, when I used Lowra as the Italian pronunciation example, I meant the -ow sound as in when you hurt yourself. Having a degree in French and Italian, I'm more than aware of how to pronounce the name Laura in Italian, thanks.

I love Maren. That’s beautiful.

MikeUniformMike · 26/08/2020 12:39

It just is, @GanderoiusGoose .Look at how the spelling is questioned on this thread.

'yoonique' is a MN term.

Laura is Lau-ra in Italy, the first syllable rhyming with How or Now, not Low.

GanderousGoose · 25/08/2020 23:02

@MikeUniformMike why is your opinion somehow likely to be reflective of others, any more than @FOKKYFC's opinion or mine? Like I say, both Laura and Lora are nice in my opinion but there's nothing "yoonique" about Lora. "Yoonique" is spelling a name in such a way as to be deliberately different and "unique" - like spelling Louise as Lueeze or Emily as Emmyleigh or Jane as Jaine or Casey as Kaycee. Lora is a perfectly legitimate spelling of the name and indeed, a differently pronounced name from Laura in some countries.

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 25/08/2020 22:20

Glad that I have entertained you FOKKYFC.

If I think it looks like a yoonique spelling, then other people are likely to do so.

FOKKYFC · 25/08/2020 21:46

It's hilarious that there are contributors here who are proper fizzy about the 'correct' spelling of names from their own country, but deride completely legitimate continental names as somehow 'outré'.

GanderousGoose · 25/08/2020 21:36

@FOKKYFC thanks! I think it's really pretty.

sunrainwind · 25/08/2020 21:36

Georgia or Anna think are lovely and Ellen or grace for a middle name.

ellenpartridge · 25/08/2020 21:31

It's a decent list. My favourite is Lara but also really like Ellen, Anna, Grace, Eva...

mastertomsmum · 25/08/2020 21:28

Laura Grace as I don’t think Lora is a name

FOKKYFC · 25/08/2020 21:28

Tessa is really nice, actually, and not too heavily-used. Not sure it goes with Amy - the 'a' ending and the initial 'A' sort of grate.

I really like 'Lora': there were two stunning girls in my Equity & Trusts module at Uni - Lora and Guilia (one Spanish, one Italian) and those names were in my list for a while. 'Yoonique' name, ffs . . . 🙄

GanderousGoose · 25/08/2020 21:25

@TwizzledTurkey Lara Evelyn is also really pretty.

OP posts:
TwizzledTurkey · 25/08/2020 21:21

I think Lara is beautiful. How about Lara Evelyn instead?

GanderousGoose · 25/08/2020 21:20

Thanks - I also prefer Cleo to Cleona though I already have a much older Theo, so not sure abt Theo and Cleo Grin. @MikeUniformMike no, Lora isn't a "yoonique" spelling of Laura - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lora#:~:text=Lora%20is%20a%20female%20given,of%20either%20Eleonora%20or%20Loredana. I like both names but find Lora prettier. In Italian, Laura would be pronounce Lowra but Lora would be pronounced Lawra. I know Laura seems to have the general consensus here but I do think Lora is a pretty spelling. Maren means "of the sea" and I think it's lovely and unusual.

Cleo is gorgeous. I'd go for Cleo Georgia.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/08/2020 20:41

I love Anna Grace and Lora Kate.

YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators · 25/08/2020 20:38

Not much help as I like Evelyn, Anna, Amy, Tessa and Ellen.
