I know the Harry Potter connection, I love the name!

Did not want to be critical of JKR, who has done a lot of very good things. I just meant to say that some of the names in her books don't follow traditional classical Latin naming conventions And, since she's writing about a fantasy world, there's no reason why they should.

It's a Latin cognomen (roughly equivalent to a surname). So if you like surnames as first names, then (just about) OK, though 'Albinus' became the more common ancient Roman form.

JKR 's characters' names seem sometimes to be a poorly-understood mash-up, rather than to reflect actual ancient practice.

SFAIK, Romans were not called 'Albus' as a first name, nor as the name by which they were usually known. A few were called 'Albinus'.

I suspect the Harry Potter connection will be a source of frustration for him as he grows up, Oh like Harry Potter will be mentioned almost every time he introduces himself.

So sorry but it's awful. Albie is cute though.

V cute but too HP for my liking!

My husband loves it, but it's a bit out there for me. Luckily we had girls so it was a moot point.

As long as you don't give him the middle name Severus

FrustratinglyFrustrated · 23/08/2020 17:53
