I know the Harry Potter connection, I love the name!

I don't actually think it's awful. Could have the nickname 'Albie' which is adorable and the fact that it's 'Albus' rather than 'Albert' is so unique. Go for it!

brightbluegentian · 25/08/2020 10:26

I know an Albert who is sometimes Albus as a nick name

iguanadonna · 25/08/2020 10:18

Great for a cat. But too obviously HP for a human child.

Alban or Albin are established names. I don't particularly like them, but they're not just recent book characters.

EsmeeMerlin · 25/08/2020 10:08

We have a cat called Albus because I am a huge Harry Potter fan with the other called Salem.

Not sure I would call a child Albus though, they will always have the Harry Potter reference pointed out.

AreSchoolsBackYet · 25/08/2020 10:06

Albie is much better

bridgetreilly · 25/08/2020 10:01

Everyone will assume you are hardcore HP fans.

It's okay but I always think it sounds a bit bland.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 25/08/2020 07:37

I thought it was an aeroplane.

daisypond · 25/08/2020 07:04

Too Harry Potter.
Alban would be good, though. After the saint.

famousforwrongreason · 25/08/2020 03:16

Vile. Sometimes, out of fear of seeming ordinary, we can be a bit try hard when it comes to baby naming.

Danniiaddy · 25/08/2020 03:08

As soon as I saw Albus, I thought Dumbledore and so will everyone else if you choose this name!

YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators · 25/08/2020 01:35

Albin is used in Scandinavia. An alternative if the HP association grates too much?

whatausername · 25/08/2020 01:31

It's a nice enough name but, even if you actually aren't a diehard fan, it's definitely straying into "my children are billboards for my fandom" territory.

whatausername · 25/08/2020 01:29

@Enough4me

Albus makes me think of Olbas oil. I like Albie though.
Olbas oil! That's the name! I knew there was something to do with snotty congested noses.
Lavenderblues · 24/08/2020 08:53

Albus is nice.

But I hate Albie! And Alfie.

sweetnosugar · 24/08/2020 08:49

I’d go Albie, like others have suggested.
Albie is a lovely name.
Albus is great for a fictional Wizard imo I don’t think it works well on a child.. unless you are a huge Harry Potter fan!

micc · 24/08/2020 08:21

Names like Luna and Hermione are still about, Luna is so popular now.
He might get the Dumbledore thing a lot though. But hey, worsr things to be associated with! I think Albie for a nn is really cute.

Plussizejumpsuit · 24/08/2020 03:20

Sounds like a cream/ointmen. Sorry but that was my go to connection. I don't read or watch Harry Potter so don't have that connection.

remainin · 24/08/2020 03:03

It sounds a little bit like pus... Atticus is good name, though!

Jj2431 · 24/08/2020 02:46

just no.

Icanflyhigh · 24/08/2020 00:33

As long as you're prepared for a lifelong nickname of Dumbledore there's no problem.
I like it, but prefer Albie or Albert, which would become Bert.

idontneedhelpyoudo · 24/08/2020 00:18

Love it, go for it!

Enough4me · 24/08/2020 00:14

Albus makes me think of Olbas oil. I like Albie though.

August20 · 24/08/2020 00:12

It's ok but I much prefer Albert

Tillygetsit · 23/08/2020 22:55

HP and bulbous. Sorry OP don't like it.

Immigrantsong · 23/08/2020 20:18

Albert is way better
