Octavia or Aurora?

DH and I love them both equally and are torn between both names!

This name would go with big brother Atticus.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
drumandthebass · 21/08/2020 16:01

Sorry but they're both awful.

Kote · 21/08/2020 16:00

Aurora definitely, nn. Rory would be cute.

Octavia sounds a bit uppity to me!

Whatsyourflava · 21/08/2020 15:55

Prefer Aurora by a mile, it's a great name and I adore option of nickname Rory
Octavia is far too OTT try hard posh for my ears

Pippilangstrumpfie · 21/08/2020 15:20

I like Octavia!

It goes well with Atticus.

DramaAlpaca · 21/08/2020 14:57

Octavia.

Champy87 · 21/08/2020 14:50

I prefer Aurora. Love the northern lights connection (which was around long before Disney) and love Rory as a nickname.

orangenasturtium · 21/08/2020 13:20

Octavia. It's beautiful, classic but uncommon. It's a grown up name.

Aurora is too Disney and too popular. I don't think it will quite be the Sharon or Tracy of this decade but it might be the Kayleigh ie still a bit unusual but very much of its time.

Whatthebloodyell · 21/08/2020 13:17

I prefer Octavia. I can not say Aurora with our sounding like I am talking with my mouth full.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 21/08/2020 13:13

I really like Octavia, but the car would put me off personally... just incase the car sticks around becomes a classic. And it becomes one of those names that is forever spoiled, like Alexa.

Spied · 21/08/2020 13:13

I dislike both but of the two I dislike Aurora a little less.

QueSera · 21/08/2020 13:09

Aurora is my favourite name of all time, so I definitely vote for that. It may now be a Disney princess, but it is so much more than that.
Also I think it goes much better with Atticus, but that's a minor consideration.

motherofdxughters · 21/08/2020 13:06

Octavia.

Cbeebiesrehab · 21/08/2020 13:04

I think both sound great with Atticus but I think I would go with Octavia!

FizzyGreenWater · 21/08/2020 12:34

Neither quite right for me - Aurora is now too associated with modern Disney princess and feels over frilly, Octavia is too car - and also, not really good short forms.

Polydora?
Minerva?

There is a good crop of names with the same feel that I would say are better choices.

villamariavintrapp · 21/08/2020 12:32

Prefer octavia. Is aurelia the perfect solution?

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 12:30

As much as I like TKAM, the name Atticus isn't to my taste, so feel free to disregard my opinion.

LemonBreeland · 21/08/2020 12:19

Love them both, would find it difficult to choose

YummyInMyTummy · 21/08/2020 12:13

Neither are to my taste, I find Aurora too Disney princess and Octavia sounds matronly to me - but I think Octavia goes better with Atticus, so would vote Octavia.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 21/08/2020 12:03

Octavia - sounds like a Jilly Cooper novel.

Doesn't like a Jilly Cooper novel it is a Jilly Cooper novel

022828MAN · 21/08/2020 11:46

@daisypond

Octavia by miles. Aurora is now a Disney Princess name and a bit naff.
It's not 'now' a Disney Princess name... It has been for decades (since Sleeping Beauty).
cupofdecaf · 21/08/2020 11:39

I would suggest avoid having 2 children with the same initials if you can't decide between them.

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 11:29

Aurora I'd rule out for being too long with no obvious nn, and for the same reason as I'd rule out Rory - too many Rs. It would be
Awowa or Auvova in my circle.

Octavia - sounds like a Jilly Cooper novel.

elfran · 21/08/2020 10:09

Neither are my style but I prefer Octavia with Atticus. I don't like the princessy connotations of Aurora, I find Octavia is stronger-sounding and less flowery. Love Vivi as a nn.

Peachbubble · 21/08/2020 09:42

Octavia. I think it goes well with Atticus too.

MintyMurray17 · 21/08/2020 08:36

Another vote for Octavia. Agree with pp that it sounds strong and feisty Smile
