Octavia or Aurora?

DH and I love them both equally and are torn between both names!

This name would go with big brother Atticus.

I like Aurora, but I think Octavia goes better with Atticus.

Shame you can’t have Aurelia.

tinselmom · 24/08/2020 14:50

@HijabiVenus

How about Aurelia?
Unfortunately DH knows someone named Aurelia so it got vetoed

100% aurora. I'm really sorry but if I'm completely honest I initially thought this post was about which car to get when saw the title with octavia in it😳

tinselmom · 24/08/2020 14:46

@CorianderLord

I love Octavia - she's a character in The 100 and uses a nickname - O.

Weirdly the characters mum is called Aurora.

That’s such an interesting coincidence!

Athena would also go well with Atticus

HijabiVenus · 24/08/2020 14:38

How about Aurelia?

Lavenderblues · 24/08/2020 14:35

both sound a little snobby

What does that actually mean?

pantherrose · 24/08/2020 14:29

@Whatthebloodyell

I prefer Octavia. I can not say Aurora with our sounding like I am talking with my mouth full.
ThisGrin . Octavia would be my preference for that reason!
VioletCharlotte · 24/08/2020 13:48

Octavia is lovely. I'm not keen on Aurora at all, it's one of those names people use to be different!

user1493494961 · 24/08/2020 13:47

Octavia, I think Aurora is the opposite of 'snobby'.

pandafunfactory · 24/08/2020 13:43

I like both. How old is your son? Which can he say more easily? Whatever he calls her she will be known as forever more.....

Confusedandgutted · 24/08/2020 09:59

I like them both

Lavenderblues · 24/08/2020 09:56

I really like Octavia!

Starbuggy · 24/08/2020 09:49

I really love Aurora

Jj2431 · 24/08/2020 02:47

both sound a little snobby but Octavia is dreadful. I do quite like Aurora

nancybotwinbloom · 24/08/2020 00:33

Ophelia

PoodleMoth · 24/08/2020 00:31

Love Octavia

daisypond · 23/08/2020 12:06

Ophelia is much worse than Octavia. It has all negative vibes. No strong sounds, frilly, suicidal drowned girl, implies ignorance or lack of education on the parents’ part that they don’t know their Shakespeare, etc.

FizzyGreenWater · 23/08/2020 11:59

Oh Ophelia is much nicer.

Octavia IS harsh.

It's one of those names that kind of have it all on paper (unusual but traditional, looks good written down, interesting) but when it comes to it it's just not quite right.

SE13Mummy · 23/08/2020 11:41

To me, girls names beginning and ending with a vowel sound come across as frilly and/weak so I wouldn't pair one with a sibling name that sounds stronger. I prefer names with a stronger feel to them, either with just a definite start/ending e.g. Imogen, Alice, Penelope, Dorothy or a definite start and ending e.g. Harriet, Clementine, Madeleine.

helpmum2003 · 22/08/2020 19:25

I love Aurora and think Octavia is OK, just a bit harsh. What about Ophelia?

I think kids having the same initial is less of an issue if they are different sexes.

sweetnosugar · 22/08/2020 19:16

Aurora, definitely!

Danniiaddy · 22/08/2020 01:34

My friend has just had a baby which she has named Octavia. She called her Avie for short.
Her family wasn’t keen but have come round to it now. My friend isn’t as keen on the name as she was unfortunately so make sure it’s what you really like!

ifiwasascent · 21/08/2020 16:06

Octavia- I find Aurora abit of a mouthful tbh!
