James or Jamie

Just wondering what people would put on BC if they were planning on using the name Jamie day to day. Do you consider it a nn of James or name that should be used fully in its own right? And thoughts on both names as well I guess!

Jamie! I think it works very well for baby and adult and is a name in its own right, not just a non.

MadamShazam · 20/08/2020 08:32

I love both but my preference would be Jamie.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 20/08/2020 08:32

I have a Jamie. Much prefer it to the name James, James just reminds me of an old man ( my papa) who everyone called Jimmy.
I also know a couple of adult Jamie's. Suits them fine, doesn't sound babyish Hmm

I may be controversial here but we went for Jamie. James never featured for us, maybe because Jamie is a family name but we both love it. NN here are Jim or Jimbob. He mostly refers to himself as Jimbob so clearly we use that most!

Ellmau · 20/08/2020 08:03

James with Jamie as nn.

ittooshallpass · 20/08/2020 08:03

Definitely James. Jamie sounds very babyish to me - fine when he's a baby, not so fine as an adult.

@Jessabean
I've pm'd you.
I notice that I was right about something I predicted in my message! Didn't take long.

remainin · 20/08/2020 07:51

My dad's name is James but goes by Jim.

remainin · 20/08/2020 07:50

My nephew's name is James but he's called Jamie "for short".

27Yardsofdentalfloss · 20/08/2020 07:47

I would definitely go with James as you give him the choice. When he is older he can be James, Jamie, Jim, Jimmy, Jay.... if you officially call him Jamie then he'll be limited just to Jamie!

I agree that the two feel like different names. That said, James is a much nicer namer in my opinion so I would put that on the birth certificate.

JaJaDingDong · 20/08/2020 07:40

@PaddingtonsHat

They feel like completely different names to me, so if going by Jamie I’d put that on the birth certificate
They are the same name! One is a nn for the other. If you name him James he has the option of using it when he's an adult with an important job, if he needs a bit of gravitas, although you can call him Jaime all the time.

If you name him Jaime he won't have that option.
