Maggy or Maggie?

Which do you prefer the look of? And why? It would be a full name, not a nickname to Margaret/Margot/Masha etc.

Maggie

Pippilangstrumpfie · 21/08/2020 07:54

I would assume that a Mag, Maggy or Maggie was really a Margaret.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/08/2020 02:07

Maggie! I also wouldn’t have it as a Margaret on BC, I like Maggie as a stand alone name x

I like it but the problem is you can always shorten Margaret to Maggie but you can't lengthen Maggie. So instead of two names, you have one option, a slightly informal sounding option.

I like giving the kid some options.

Maggie

I have a 16 year old Maggie - I think I was a trend setter! She has been asked if it ends in a y, a spelling that I never knew existed. That doesn't bother her, what does is that people assume they have misheard and think she is called Maddie.

ihoeihoeihoe · 20/08/2020 12:14

I love it and it is firmly number 1 name if we ever have a daughter!

I know a Maggie at work, people always seem to presume the spelling is with -ie so I would say that is the more common spelling and go with that one!

Champy87 · 20/08/2020 10:51

@Kittykatmacbill

Maggie.

Love it should have been dd1 name but cold feet at the last minute. Mostly because of the grandparents hated of thatcher.

I was the same. It was my front running name for my pregnancy but got cold feet at the end. Still a little bit of regret there.

OP - I would have gone with Maggie too

Maggie!

Pippilangstrumpfie · 19/08/2020 22:04

Maggy is a nickname just as Mag, Mags or Maggie is.

I like Margaret but love Margherita!

MamaLoLo1 · 19/08/2020 21:46

Maggy is the more common in mainland Europe. There are a couple of famous French Maggys. I understand the baggy/saggy links though.

Thanks @PlantPotting! It's the top contender!

Maggy - saggy baggy - not a name.

Maggie - the baby in the Simpsons, and a well-known shortening for Margaret.

foxtiger · 19/08/2020 21:26

Maggy is not a name.

I know someone who goes by it (full name is Margaret) so it's not unheard of. I think I do prefer Maggie though, although neither is really my style.

MikeUniformMike · 19/08/2020 21:20

Maggie

PlantPotting · 19/08/2020 21:05

Margot the name a slew of new mothers have picked for their DDs because they think Margot Robbie is attractive

june2007 · 19/08/2020 19:39

MamaLoLo1 · 19/08/2020 19:39
