Thoughts? Not sure what I think of it. Is it dated?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My little boy watches a programme called Simon. It's on Netflix. It's about a rabbit family, Simon's brother is called Gaspard. As soon as I saw your thread I immediately sang "here comes Simon! Here comes Simon...!" It's very catchy.

Polarising!

There’s this bloke at my gym called Simon. Amazing shoulders. Looks a bit like Richard Gere if you squint a bit.
He is older than 40 though.
It’s a great name.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 18/08/2020 19:50

@Carouselfish

It's a very meek sounding name, like Timothy. For that reason, I'm not keen.
I was about to say I know a Simon who is 7ish. His brother is called Timothy Grin
Enough4me · 18/08/2020 19:47

How about Silas?

Enough4me · 18/08/2020 19:47

The Simon's I know are boring and the nn Si, pronounced Sigh. That puts me off.

JulesCobb · 18/08/2020 19:45

I know a 12 yr old simon and plenty of men in their 40’s. None in between.

GreyGardens88 · 18/08/2020 19:44

Not a fan

elp30 · 18/08/2020 19:41

I'm married to a Paul and my ex-husband is a Charles. I quite like classic names like those so to me, Simon is in that league.

Oneandabean · 18/08/2020 19:29

Simple Simon. I was in school with a few and they all slotted in to the simple Simon thoughts. None of them turned out to be particularly nice people either so for me it’s an awful name

spaghettihoops16 · 18/08/2020 18:43

Oh good god no!! It's not cool enough to be make a trendy reappearance and reminds me of middle aged man who work in insurance wearing a dull grey suit. Give it another 20 years then maybe, but not now.

Flappingflamingo · 18/08/2020 17:43

My useless, waste of space ex who can barely be bothered with our son. On the other hand I also know a very nice 16 Yr old.
I definitely think he will be the only one in his class

Carouselfish · 18/08/2020 17:33

It's a very meek sounding name, like Timothy. For that reason, I'm not keen.

BuffaloCauliflower · 18/08/2020 15:46

I would never think of it, but some (American in England) friends have a Simon who’s about 7, and it just feels completely different on a child than I’d expected. A nice classic I think, though I don’t think I’d have thought that until recently knowing a child with the name!

AllPlayedOut · 18/08/2020 15:44

Simon is lovely.

DuckonaBike · 18/08/2020 15:43

I like it! Agree it’s an underused classic.

MikeUniformMike · 18/08/2020 15:41

Yes CatteStreet, but they'll come back before long.
A friend has an Andrew born when baby boys were Ryan, Liam, Joshua or Conor. it seemed dated at the time but it seems fresh now.

GinWithRosie · 18/08/2020 15:28

I actually like it! 👍

CatteStreet · 18/08/2020 15:23

@MikeUniformMike

Classic, nice, underused. I'd say it was in the same league as Andrew, Peter, Mark, Matthew, Paul, Philip.
This - all those really nice Biblical names that had quite heavy use in the 60s/70s/80s, which makes people think of them as dated now. (Cf. also Rebecca, Sarah, Rachel, Abigail for girls).
RoseMartha · 18/08/2020 15:23

I like it

Palestrina20 · 18/08/2020 15:21

Definitely in the Alan/Keith/Colin category.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 18/08/2020 15:19

It’s a boring name in my mind. Know a few but they’re all 30+. I just think Simple Simon or Simon Says.

NameChange84 · 18/08/2020 15:19

Weirdly I’m not keen on Simon but I quite like Simeon.

I also like Simone for a girl.

I’d agree that it’s a “Paul” type name.

MissDollyMix · 18/08/2020 15:18

It reminds me of the character from The Inbetweeners, or the game Simon Says... it's not the worst name though I guess...

Sunnydaysandsalad · 18/08/2020 15:17

That awful bloody kid in Coronation Street...
