Thoughts? Not sure what I think of it. Is it dated?

I know an 11yo Simon, it's a nice name.

ImRealHonest · 21/08/2020 18:30

Definitely a Colin / Keith type name. Not ready for the comeback

STBXH is called Simon. His best mates are Colin and Keith. He also has a mate called Clive.

Please don’t do it to a poor child.

sorryforswearing · 21/08/2020 18:27

SwedishEdith

St John maybe instead?
Sorry, but who is going to call their child St John?

There’s always one. 😂

Watercoloursky · 21/08/2020 18:20

I love the name, but I'm biased as it's my fiance's name! He's 41. I was also at school with a couple of Simons, and at uni with another, so they'd be mid-30s now. I don't know any little Simons, but I think it's pretty timeless - a good solid name that's not as popular as other Biblical names like John, James, etc.

alexdgr8 · 21/08/2020 17:46

simon is perfectly acceptable, also simeon.
it's not like keith, colin, trevor, alan; which are ok anyway.
those are very mid 20th century.
simon like all biblical names is a classic throughout the ages.

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 21/08/2020 17:40

Awful - loathe it!!!

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 21/08/2020 17:37

Not keen. Feels dated rather than classic to me, and does seem a bit “wet” as a PP said.

finallychangedmyusername · 21/08/2020 17:22

Classic biblical name out of popularity currently (along with Stephen, Mark, Paul, Andrew, Timothy) that is a really good name IMO. Have to say though, the nickname Si isn't great. I'd love to meet a little Simon.

Twizbe · 21/08/2020 13:42

We had a koi carp called Simon. He was the last one we named and couldn't think what else to call it

4kidmom · 21/08/2020 03:34

I’ve never known a child named Simon. I think it is a classic ready for a come back.

LarkDescending · 20/08/2020 07:22

It’s very much of my generation (born late 60s) along with names like Paul and Mark. (NB not so much Keith, Colin and Alan who tended to be 10-20 years older).

It was never a particular favourite of mine but it is solid and classic - the ones I know are good guys, so I think of it as a good guy’s name. I’d be surprised but pleased to meet a baby Simon.

mrsfollowill · 19/08/2020 23:32

Don't- it's not due for a comeback yet. Only know 2 Simons at present and both late 40's - one a sales rep and the other a gardener- not that their professions matter but it's a 70's kid name still Grin

SwedishEdith · 19/08/2020 23:20

St John maybe instead?

Sorry, but who is going to call their child St John? Grin

toastmeahotcrossbun · 19/08/2020 23:15

Most Simons are aged about 42-52. With the Pauls, Marks, Alans.
It's not a bad name but like pp says, they often get called Si which is less nice imo

foxtiger · 19/08/2020 21:38

I quite like it. The youngest one I know must be about 8 or 9 now, so it's not completely dead.

BinkyBoinky · 19/08/2020 20:37

Boring, and a bit "wet". Like Lindsey/Lindsay, in a thread the other day.

Grobagsforever · 19/08/2020 20:12

Dearest late DH was Simon (he was born 1978). Gorgeous name.

DP is a Paul, guess I like the classics!

BeMorePacific · 19/08/2020 19:18

I’m so surprised at all the positive responses 🙈
I’m really not a fan, and can’t imagine a baby called Simon x

Oriflamme · 19/08/2020 15:43

Lovely name. Some of my very favourite people are Simons!

PlantPotting · 19/08/2020 15:38

I think Simon will be the only one in his class but his mates will be saying "oh that's my uncles name" "that's my dads name". Depends if they mind that or not. I don't like the nickname "Si". Sounds like you're exasperated.

I think Peter is really nice though and that's also very underused these days

nevertrustaherdofcows · 19/08/2020 15:35

St John maybe instead?

pronounced 'Sinjeon'

MikeUniformMike · 19/08/2020 14:37

The actor who plays Justin Elliott on The Archers is a Simon, but his friends and family call him Sam.

Simeon is too similar to Simian.

BikeRunSki · 18/08/2020 23:31

Simeon is a bit more interesting, and avoids the “Sigh” abbreviation.

user1493494961 · 18/08/2020 23:16

It's a lovely name and definitely not in the Alan/Keith/Colin category. I think it will make a comeback.

micc · 18/08/2020 21:46

If you really like it you should go with it, as it isn't offensive and its classic.

But I have a bad initial reaction.. sorry it's just a bit boring in my opinion. Dont really like si either..

But think is just my reaction, the names I like everyone hates so you got to go with your gut Haha
Plus names grow on me when I meet a new baby or someone with that name :)
