Thinking of using Mae/May/Mai as a middle name for Clementine...

Firstly what do you think? And which spelling??

June?

Thefaceofboe · 17/08/2020 19:21

Also I agree with pp ^ Clementine Joy is lovely. Sounds like a happy name :)

Thefaceofboe · 17/08/2020 19:20

Love Clementine May. I think it keeps it classy where as Mae / Mai / Mei seem to be commonly used as a name filler.

Flappingflamingo · 17/08/2020 19:04

Clementine may
Clementine joy
Clementine kate

MikeUniformMike · 17/08/2020 18:53

Rae works because it is a scottish surname, but Fay is much classier.

I'm not keen on Clementine. Clem sounds too much like phlegm.

DrFoxtrot · 17/08/2020 18:06

I like with PP suggestion of Fay/ Faye.

Raindrop87 · 17/08/2020 17:43

I definitely want a middle name...it's just finding the right one...🤔

May is my adult dd's middle name, it was also my DM and DGM middle name . They were born 1912 and late 30s. They were also Welsh. Its a timeless name really

NewMama20 · 17/08/2020 17:22

Maybe drop the middle name and keep it simple?

Raindrop87 · 17/08/2020 17:20

I do like Clementine Olivia...not sure if it's a bit of a mouthful though?

Clementine Celeste has got me thinking too...

@Orphlids I get what you mean, May is a bit of a cop-out and she deserves an equally fabulous middle name!

All suggestions welcome!

Clementine is a brilliant name. It doesn’t sound like an STI. If you’re sure about the middle name, then I’d spell it May. But I’m afraid I agree with PP that this has become an almost ridiculously common choice. As you’re choosing such a fabulous first name, I think you might as well keep up the good work with the middle name.

Faye, Joan, Celeste, Vida, Fleur, Portia, Isolde, and Greta all sound quite exciting (to me - you might think they’re all bloody awful!)

Undervaluedandsad · 17/08/2020 17:05

I used May 12 years ago - no regrets.

Abraid2 · 17/08/2020 17:00

I like May and this is the best spelling. It's a really pretty month and you should keep the traditional spelling.

TheVanguardSix · 17/08/2020 17:00

Oh I missed the bit about it being a middle name.
How about Zoe?
Or...
Lou
Louise
Rose
Marie
Olivia
Ophelia
Alice
Violet
Rae
Eliza(beth)

Raindrop87 · 17/08/2020 16:58

@Sunhorse That's it, with a 3 syllable first and surname I was thinking something short would work best...

Oneandabean · 17/08/2020 16:56

Definitely stick with may, although if you like mae what about Maeve as a middle name? I like clementine Olivia too

Chewbecca · 17/08/2020 16:56

Clementine is lovely.

I’d stick with the conventional May for ease.

Sunhorse · 17/08/2020 16:54

Is it that you're feeling that the long first name needs a shorter middle name?

How about...

Clementine Zoe
Clementine Niamh
Clementine Rose
Clementine Anna
Clementine Joy
Clementine Eve
Clementine Hope

perfumeistooexpensive · 17/08/2020 16:54

May/Mae is the most overused second name at the moment. I'd avoid it myself. Maria goes better with Clementine.

TheVanguardSix · 17/08/2020 16:52

May

Mai is the German month of May and is pronounced My.
Mae just looks wonky. It works for Rae but not May.
So I would stick with May or think about Rae or Faye.
Rhea is another name that might be one to consider.

Raindrop87 · 17/08/2020 16:49

@FelicityBob Yeah I don't see the association either!

OP posts:
QuintusEstInHorto · 17/08/2020 16:47

Definitely May.

Mae feels affected and Mai sounds like My.

FelicityBob · 17/08/2020 16:47

@Raindrop87

I've got to admit...I'm wracking my brains for which STD it sounds like! 🤣
Chlamydia I guess! But can’t say I’ve ever thought that
FelicityBob · 17/08/2020 16:46

I agree that Mai is a welsh name pronounced My
