How? I've just checked them all for pronunciation on YouTube and they all sound the same on there

Yes, they sound the same, but they aren’t the same names, so they have different vibes . Halle is a surname - hence the department store - and is too associated with the actress. Halley is the surname of the astronomer, so fits with Big Bang Theory. Hallie is made up, but is the most usable to me.

Halley and Hallie are different names to Halle.

Not keen, will date badly, this generation's Leanne.

elizabell · 13/08/2020 07:23

I love it. More familiar with the ie spelling but Halle looks good too.
I think it's becoming more popular in the UK, I know of a couple of baby Hallies.

daisypond · 13/08/2020 07:04

Halley and Hallie are different names to Halle.

prettygreenteacup · 13/08/2020 06:01

I have a Hallie Smile She never gets called Hayley. We call her Hals a lot at home.

SenorFrog · 13/08/2020 05:58

I know one, she's 15. She sometimes gets called Hall or Hall'ee, but most people say it right or only need telling once.

I don't really like it though, but my taste isn't important to anyone but me.

GirlCalledJames · 13/08/2020 05:52

I like it. It’s the name of a character on the Big Bang Theory spellt like the comet, so it may be better known now.
As a child it would have been great to be named after the comet.

jellyjellybaby · 13/08/2020 05:41

I'd actually suggest the Halley spelling just like the comet. Seems to be the same sound and people might be more familiar with it (I hope?)

blindmansbluff · 13/08/2020 01:45

My dd is named Hallie, pronounced Hal-ee. The other spelling we saw was Halleigh but preferred the first version.

She's only ever been called Hayley once in 6 years and that was by someone where English wasn't their first language.

Change17 · 13/08/2020 00:44

Makes me think of the Halley comet ! Also
Halle from The Parent Trap

I quite like it but I’m not surprised it’s not popular on MN.

ginandgingers92 · 12/08/2020 23:41

I'm not keen, sorry OP

Lyricallie · 12/08/2020 23:34

I really like it, reminds me of early 2000s parent trap.

adulthumanwoman · 12/08/2020 23:34

Makes me think of the Halle Orchestra (not a bad thing!)

toastmeahotcrossbun · 12/08/2020 23:29

I love it

Grufallosfriends · 12/08/2020 22:26

Halle pronunced Hall-eh?

It means hall in German

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 12/08/2020 21:05

@WhereTheCrawdadsSing

Ah, thank you Halo

WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 12/08/2020 20:45

Hallé

Here you go Humphrey Grin.

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 12/08/2020 20:44

First thing that comes to my mind is the Halle orchestra (with an acute accent, can't work it on my phone Blush)

WhereTheCrawdadsSing · 12/08/2020 20:39

It makes me think of Halle Berry but also the word halitosis, sorry.

Hayley might be due a revival?

daisypond · 12/08/2020 19:51

Halle (Berry) is named after a department store in her home town. Is it an actual name, apart from hers (middle name originally)?

AnnieMaul · 12/08/2020 19:29

I think Hallie/Hally would help with pronunciation.

Although at a glance "Hallie" could still be mistaken for "Hailie" (Hayley)
I've never seen it spelt that way in the UK, but know of a couple of American public figures who spell Hayley that way.

I do prefer the look of "Halle" though.

123Dancewithme · 12/08/2020 18:49

I would spell it Hallie

MikeUniformMike · 12/08/2020 17:24

Before I heard Halle Berry's name I had no idea how to say it. Hal-ay? Hall? Hail?
I'm not keen but would spell it Hally

hearhimsnore · 12/08/2020 17:15

Yes Halle as in Halle Berry.

Would spelling it Hallie be less confusing? Do you know of any other ways to spell.

Agreed, I'm not keen on Hayley so wouldn't want people getting it wrong.
