Elizabeth, total classic.

Ideas-

Elaina
Victoria
Hazel
Alexandra
Charlotte

MsTSwift · 28/08/2020 07:43

How can you say Caroline is boring but like Sophie and Grace! Those really are boring every other girl in my dds classes named one of Sophie Grace Olivia Isabel or an Eve type name definitely avoid those as overused. This generations Claire Sarah and Vicky which essentially all my 40 something friends are called...

danascully96 · 28/08/2020 07:24

Might I suggest:

Clara
Charlotte
Anna
Violet
Rose
Lena
Susannah
Madeline (fair warning, Madelyn is constantly confused with this)
Matilda
Evelyn
Natalia
Vivian
Emma
Louisa
Lily
Pearl

My wildest suggestion is Athena, which is a name I would love to encounter someday!

SummerSummerSummertime · 28/08/2020 07:06

Love:
Sophie - or Sophia
Grace
Marigold (nn Goldie)
Elizabeth
Ophelia

Please don't use:
Margot - looks like Maggot
Caroline - soooo boring. Carol is also bad.
Gabrielle - like a boy's name turned into a girls name (Nigella, Thomasona etc...)

Octavia, Arabella & Eugenie - all sound a bit pony club (of course this may be what you want?)

The others are just a bit "meh"

ElizabethMainwaring · 28/08/2020 06:09

@Whatsyourflava
You know a girl called Mungo?Shock

MsTSwift · 28/08/2020 05:59

Oh Grace is overused and dull too.

How can Penelope be seen as faddish?! It’s a classic several of my mothers friends called it! Really like all the others bar the ones I’ve criticised!

MsTSwift · 28/08/2020 05:58

I like them all except Sophie dull overused wallpaper name and Arabella as it conjures up certain perception of very aristocratic type not in a good way. Also Primrose as sounds prim and Harold Shipmans wife but like all the others.

sunyla · 28/08/2020 03:51

Sorry, not sure why it made random parts in bold... I meant for it to just have the names that way.

sunyla · 28/08/2020 03:47

Margot - It's a lovely name but I much prefer it spelt without the t at the end.
Penelope - A favourite of mine! Such a beautiful name.
Ophelia - I can't stand the name Ophelia. I immediately think of the word P**ophelia.
Octavia - It's a beautiful yet strong sounding name and it isn't overly common either.
Caroline - I'm torn because I think it's a lovely name but I can't imagine it on someone under 30.
Primrose - I don't hate it but I don't really like it either. People will likely assume she was named after hunger games.
Arabella - So beautiful!
Eugenie - I really don't like it, sorry! Just doesn't sound nice to me.
Elizabeth - Even though it's not my style of name I actually really like it! I know a few Elizabeth's so it's quite common but they are all lovely people.
Gwyneth - Once again, I don't hate it but don't particularly like it either.
Marigold - So beautiful!
Astrid - I don't like Astrid, however, I do like Aspen which is similar.
Grace - I like it as a middle name but not really as a first name.
Sophie - Nice name but I prefer Sofia.
Gabrielle - Also nice but I prefer Gabriella. Gabrielle is too similar to Gabriel for me.

My favourites from your list are Margot and Marigold ❤️

Thatbliddywoman · 25/08/2020 00:06

Margot- old librarian
Penelope- like it but a bit plump sounding
Ophelia- ophelia balls.
Octavia too much reminder of things to do with '8'
Caroline- dated and reminds me of 'Roses smell like booboo'
Primrose- lovely but a bit too niche. What if she's a butch lesbian?
Arabella- like. Ara is a nice sound/nickname.
Eugenie- Eugenia Cooney. Not such a nice sound IMO
Elizabeth LOVE this name.
Gwyneth- not a pretty name
Marigold- same as primrose
Astrid- like it
Grace- overdone
Sophie- bit boring
Gabrielle- boyish.

:)

Whatsyourflava · 24/08/2020 23:59

My favourites from your list:

Margot
Penelope
Ophelia
Arabella
Elizabeth
Grace
Sophie

Some really lovely choices!
Least favourite is Octavia. It's awful. Too try hard posh for me. I know two sisters Octavia and Mungo. 😬

How about

Margaret nn Maggie
Clementine nn Clemmie
Delilah
Jemima
Verity
Pearl

missmouse101 · 24/08/2020 21:22

Margot is about as far from beautiful as it's possible to be! It looks like maggot and is a truly awful geriatric name. From your list, I do like Primrose but the 'prim' bit is a little off-putting.

78Helena · 24/08/2020 21:18

Arabella
Margot
Eugenie
Elizabeth

Wingingthis · 24/08/2020 21:16

Adding Aurelia and Aurelie to your list :) love your style

mylittleavalon · 24/08/2020 21:14

Just adding Felicity to the suggestions and Cassandra

Onestepup · 23/08/2020 23:03

I like these best:

Octavia
Primrose
Arabella
Marigold
Grace
Sophie

VenusClapTrap · 23/08/2020 22:56

Love Marigold

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 23/08/2020 22:43

Marigold and Primrose are my favourites. Lovely names and cute shortened.

earthyfire · 23/08/2020 22:33

I love Primrose but would never be brave enough to use it.

frogsarejumpy · 12/08/2020 06:16

How about Genevieve?

SE13Mummy · 12/08/2020 01:42

To me, Sophie, Elizabeth, Grace and Gabrielle are the names that stand the test of time. I think Margot and Penelope are lovely names which are increasing in popularity so time to come may pinpoint when a child was born.

Other timeless, and not overly fussy, names I like include Imogen, Susan, Alice, Mary, Eleanor, Hannah and Harriet.

DramaAlpaca · 12/08/2020 01:39

It's all very subjective isn't it? To me, some of the names on OP's list are pretty, some are downright ugly. Only one or two I'd consider beautiful. I won't say which fits into each category Grin
