Rory or Ronnie?

Baby boy is due in 5 weeks. My partner has his heart set on Rory but yesterday I came across the name Ronnie on a baby names list, I really like it.
Which do you prefer?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CanIKondo · 11/08/2020 22:11

I much prefer Rory.

Kitmerow · 11/08/2020 22:04

Ronnie is much nicer than Rory. Anyone who uses ‘positively sublime’ to describe a babies name is not someone you want to getting advice from 😂 what a prat. (@Orphlids)

daisypond · 11/08/2020 21:56

Rory by miles.

Orphlids · 11/08/2020 21:55

@HD98, my comment had no element of snobbery in it. You’re assumption that my dislike of the name is due to snobbery is snobbish in itself. Do you assume the only reason I could possibly dislike a name is because I consider it “common”? You’re the only one out of the two of us to imply there’s any element of class here.

This is a names forum. When people ask for opinions on a name, that is what they will get. There’s no need to get so defensive if people don’t like the same names as you. I’m perfectly aware my children’s names would be considered utterly vile by plenty of people. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Rory 🥰
Dislike Ronnie

zigaziga · 11/08/2020 21:37

Rory is sooooo much better.

Ronnie is not a nice name.

HD98 · 11/08/2020 21:18

@AllPlayedOut
They asked which name was preferred - that doesn't mean slate one or both of their name choices, calling them awful or ghastly...

Cmini · 11/08/2020 20:46

Rory 100% (I have a Rory Grin)

Rachel247 · 11/08/2020 20:38

Many people struggle with their Rs.

Two Rs are tough for those. It becomes Wowy.

Pixilicious · 11/08/2020 20:28

Rory by a million miles. Ronnie is awful.

Hardbackwriter · 11/08/2020 20:22

Rory, by a long way. I considered it for DS but had to rule it out because I have a slight speech impediment and find 'r's a bit hard (unfortunately there's one in my name!)

Bringmewineandcake · 11/08/2020 20:21

Rory for definite over Ronnie.

But if you're not sure about Rory then have a look at some other ideas.

HD98 · 11/08/2020 20:18

And @Orphlids really? Confused
No need for nasty snobby comments just because someone doesn't have the same taste as you.
I'm sure you wouldn't like the same said about your baby names.

AllPlayedOut · 11/08/2020 20:18

Their names are probably 'awful' in your opinion because people have different tastes, but you keep it to yourself.

Not when they've asked for an opinion.

mintich · 11/08/2020 20:15

Rory by a long way!

HD98 · 11/08/2020 20:12

I quite like both tbh, I would personally choose Rory because it goes best with my other name choices but Ronnie is sweet in it's own way too.
Also, don't listen to people saying either name is 'awful'. You'll never find a name that pleases everyone. Their names are probably 'awful' in your opinion because people have different tastes, but you keep it to yourself.
You only considered Ronnie since yesterday so keep considering it for the 5 weeks and go with what your heart says.

noraclavicle · 11/08/2020 19:55

Ronnie is my DF’s name. He’s as far from an East-End gangster as you could possibly get. I like it - it’s neither awful nor naff, so you lot can sod off!! I wouldn’t choose either name though for my own, so there you go.

Youngatheart00 · 11/08/2020 19:53

I don’t like either of those names tbf. Rory is oh so common now and Ronnie reminds me of an old Scottish man! Mind you, you do see some of the old names come back.

Orphlids · 11/08/2020 19:50

I thought Rory was awful, but it seems positively sublime in comparison with the ghastly Ronnie.

M0mmyneedswine · 11/08/2020 19:46

Rory is much nicer imo

mummyh2016 · 11/08/2020 19:46

Rory, it was our boy name choice when I was pregnant with DD.

mamaoffourdc · 11/08/2020 19:40

Rory

CharlieBoo · 11/08/2020 18:59

Ronnie

FizzyGreenWater · 11/08/2020 18:37

Also love Roddy too though!

FizzyGreenWater · 11/08/2020 18:36

Rory by several geological ages.

Rory is just lovely - short, simple, but interesting (I imagine a Rory to be all outdoorsy and rufty-tufty). Easy to spell. Good on a child an an adult.

Ronnie is just naff.
