Can this first name go with this last name?

We have a baby due in late 2020. We like the name Harrison. Our last name is Johnson. Does Harrison Johnson sound reasonable? Or do the ‘son’ endings sound silly together? If so, open to other ideas. Thank you very much for your help.

Harrijon Sonson. Put the problem bits together.

HopelessSemantics · 11/08/2020 00:05

Go the whole hog and call him Sonson Johnson.

Rubybluesy · 11/08/2020 00:04

Definitely doesn't go... Harry

MyPetPegasus · 11/08/2020 00:02

I have a -son surname and liked some -son first names. In the end we decided it didn't work unfortunately.

How about Henry?

Crazypie · 10/08/2020 13:52

I think it's fine

emmathedilemma · 10/08/2020 13:35

Harry or Harris but not Harrison.
That's quite interesting @Blackbear19 i would generally only use my first name because i work in a very male dominated industry so most people would know who it is from that when i ring or leave a voicemail. I tend to only give my surname if i'm ringing people I don't already know. Some of my male colleagues we have 3 or 4 of them with the same surname in our office of less than 100 so they often get referred to by both names.

JaffaCakeGal · 10/08/2020 13:27

@YoureAllABunchOfBastards

Sounds like a firm of solicitors
I can't stop laughing at this Grin
sorryforswearing · 09/08/2020 23:42

Sorry but they don’t go.

Blackbear19 · 09/08/2020 23:35

99.9% of the time he'll just be called Harrison not his full name anyway

Professionally men tend to use their full name. "Hello its Harrison Johnston of Joe Bloggs Ltd" Women are really guilty of only using their first name."Hi its Karen at Joe Bloggs"
It was pointed out to me in a book of things women do to jeopardise their own career. And it's so true, once its pointed out you can't help but notice it.

HillyJilly · 09/08/2020 23:28

I quite like it. But it'll maybe cause confusion for companies when he's an adult as to which name is which.

percheron67 · 09/08/2020 23:26

Two surnames. Sounds very off.

DramaAlpaca · 09/08/2020 23:22

No, it's not a good combination.

123Dancewithme · 09/08/2020 23:18

No, it doesn’t work.

Tillygetsit · 09/08/2020 22:33

I cannot bear the name Harris. Makes me think of Rolf Envy not envy.
Harry works. Sorry, but Harrison Johnson is too clunky.

VenusClapTrap · 09/08/2020 22:23

It doesn’t work.

BeMorePacific · 09/08/2020 21:15

Oh, it’s so hard finding a name you love.
I don’t love the 2 names together (sorry!!)
But, if you do, go for it! x

Jessabean · 09/08/2020 21:08

Sorry I agree it's a bit of a mouthful and does sound a bit like a business. Harry or Harris go really well though if you are open to them?

Biscuitsneeded · 09/08/2020 20:26

Just Harris? I know a boy with his name and it suits him.

Minai · 09/08/2020 20:24

I don’t think it works, sorry. It’s just a bit much with the 2 -son endings and agree with previous posters it sounds a bit like a solicitors firm.

MikeUniformMike · 09/08/2020 18:56

When I think of most people, I think of them as Firstname Lastname.

People on telly and actors are Firstname Lastname. My MP is Firstname Lastname. Most Prime Ministers are Firstname Lastname.
Even Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are Firstname Lastname.

MikeUniformMike · 09/08/2020 18:36

Madonna, Cher, Cheryl and Beyonce are keen MNers

BikeRunSki · 09/08/2020 18:14

I’m always curious about the MN world where people’s first and surname are not used together.

I’d use Harris rather than Harrison. Two surnames together does sound rather like a firm of solicitors or accountants or landed gentry, as in “Oh Daaahling, you must know thE Harrison-Johnsons, the Sussex Harrison-Johnsons? Not the Hampshire Harrison-Johnson’s.”

zigaziga · 09/08/2020 18:00

It’s not that often the first and last names are said together most of the time he will just be Harrison so I wouldn’t stress about it too much if you love it

I disagree with this. Professionally I was always Firstname Surname. It’s how I’d answer the phone 30 times a day, how I’d introduce myself and how I’d be referred to / talked about (“Do you know my colleague Mary Smith in the Legal department?” Etc).

FizzyGreenWater · 09/08/2020 15:20

Oh no please no.

It sounds awful, yes like an insurance brokers. It's very harsh, very impersonal.

BUT I confess I really don't like Harrison.

Harrison with a practically rhyming surname is double bad though.
