Thisismytimetoshine · 01/08/2020 22:34

Very Irish! It is Irish, but what on earth does that matter?!

SomeWateryTart · 01/08/2020 22:33

I thought that with the fada, it was pronounced kee-rawn? Do you mean that pronunciation? I know some Ciarans (sans fada) and one Ciarán, who pronounces it kee-RAWN, with emphasis on the second syllable.

My sons name he’s 9 there are many in Scotland not sure I really like it his dad chose it he suits it now though I wanted to call him Matthew

Ciarán is such a lovely name. I'm in Ireland, I don't think it's dated.

MikeUniformMike · 01/08/2020 21:11

Names can be dated but come back into fashion.

I can only think of a couple of Arthurs roughly in my age group (both a few yrs older), one George etc.

Ciarán is probably fine, but Kieran/Kieron not. Kiran can be male or female and might be dated. He could be having to spell his name or correct people quite a lot.

emilybrontescorsett · 01/08/2020 21:01

I like it especially spelt that way.

SisterCellophane · 01/08/2020 21:00

And we're plastic paddies, third generation in England...

Ciarán! How sad is it that I've just worked out how to type with diacritic marks on my phone...
Every name I like is dated, it seems to be a real problem for me!

Fine if you're Irish but was popular as Kieran in the mid 20th century, so is dated.

geekaMaxima · 01/08/2020 20:35

Is there something wrong with a name being Irish, emmathedilemma?

Marlena1 · 01/08/2020 20:34

I like it and considered it. Don't think it's dated (it is Irish though and usually with a fada on the last a)

emmathedilemma · 01/08/2020 20:32

A bit dated and very Irish.
