Gosh sorry I don't like any of them. Sean, Liam and Alfie are the worst.

Change17 · 13/08/2020 05:10

Alfred (Alfie) - loved it a few years ago but I really think it’s been over done
Arthur - love it. Always had a fear though of people who don’t say their “th” properly calling him “arfffur”
Frederick (Fred) - like! Freddie great for a child and Fred is great for adult
George- don’t really have a strong opinion. It’s just ok.
Liam- no. Really dislike
Richard - probably due a comeback. Don’t love it but can see it doing the rounds again
Samuel (Sam) Like and definitely not as common as it once was
Sean not keen but like shane.

BabyDust13 · 12/08/2020 21:17

I like Frederick, Richard and Samuel.

Dislike Alfie, Liam and Sean.

Suggestions: Albert, Robert?

Whatsyourflava · 04/08/2020 17:59

Just hate the sound of the word Sean @SisterCellophane like shaving a sheep? That's the sort of image it conjures up for me @SisterCellophane

GlamGiraffe · 02/08/2020 18:09

I don't really know. I think it's because their not such obviously solid english names (if you're irish obviously that's a different matter). Its the only thing I can assume. I don't know that's the reason, I just dont like them!

Carouselfish · 02/08/2020 17:06

Really like Sean.
Don't like the ones ending in an ie sound. Too popular right now.
Like Arthur.
Hate George.

SisterCellophane · 02/08/2020 16:27

@GlamGiraffe, do you mind if you ask why you hate Liam and Sean? They seem to be the least popular on here by a long shot so I'm trying to work out why.
Oddly they were the favourites among my family, is it a case of them still being 30 years out of date and the names are now old-fashioned?

Alfie (not Alfred)
Samuel
Liam
George
Fredrick
Sean
Arthur
Richard

Definitely would choose Alfie, I think that's such a cute name.

AdaColeman · 02/08/2020 02:24

Frederick & Arthur are my favourites, though Arthur is becoming very popular now.
I like Alfred too, though not Alfie, Alf would be alright as a grown up nick name.

George, Liam and Sean are my least favourite.

Have you considered Seamus or Lorcan?

GlamGiraffe · 02/08/2020 02:21

Samuel is a nice classic name. My favourite on your list.
Absolutley loathe liam and Sean.
Richard is a classic, "proper"name so could work. I havent heard of any at the moment so thetes a reasonable chance it might start up become popular again in a few years.

Ginandplatonic · 02/08/2020 02:15

I like Frederick, Alfred and Arthur. Frederick probably no 1 because it’s the least used of the three.

I agree Richard is due to come back soon - it’s a strong, classic, “Royal” name. You could get in first and be ahead of the curve!

Sam is unexceptionable - but I can think of at least a dozen without even trying among my boys’ schoolmates. They are teenagers though, not sure about its popularity for babies.

Sean is fine, not particularly keen on Liam or George.

Onestepup · 02/08/2020 02:00

Alfred (Alfie) - old man trend, overdone now
Arthur - see Alfred
Frederick (Fred) - like
George - like
Liam - not keen
Richard - deserves a comeback
Samuel (Sam) - OK if a bit dull
Sean - OK
