Joshua or Joseph for other twin?

Hello again, for people who don’t know - I made a thread about what people thought of me and DW naming our twins Joshua and Joseph (nn and Josh and Joe). However, it wasn’t very well received, and I understand the reasons why, it also goes a lot deeper than what we originally had doubts about (however I don’t know why people were saying Joe is a NN for Joshua Confused).

So me and DW have decided to go with Samuel for one of the twins and one of these two for the other. Which do people prefer, Joshua or Joseph? Thanks Smile

Joshua was popular around the same time as Liam, Conor and Ryan, so it tends to fall in that bracket. I find the J and SH sounds too close, but other than that it is ok.

I think they are all nice names and any two would go well together.

Certainly agree that Joshua was a very popular name a few years back, perhaps too popular (but not chavvy!!) but I don't think it is so much now.

Much prefer Joseph to Joe.

OP, If you like both Joshua and Joseph, then don't take too much attention of what people say on here.

I'd go for Sam and Dan or Sam and Ben.

Joshua and Samuel were our choices for DS. We went with Josh in the end but it was very close - DD got the deciding vote. So I vote Joshua.

Joseph. Sam and Joe are in the same name pond. Although it’s an old biblical name Joshua sounds too modern and do I dare say a tad chavvy to my ears.

I love Joseph, it was our boys name before we knew DD was a girl.

Joshua and Samuel go together well (my 2 nephews names) Joshua is rarely shortened in our family, but Samuel is almost always Sam

Both lovely names (and Samuel too) but Joseph has the edge for me.

I know brothers who are Sam and Joe (in their 30s) so to my ear they just sound right together.

My two best mates are Sam and Joe and I can confirm that are bloody lovely!

Ohhh I like Sam and Joe! They just seem like sound fellas Grin

I don't really like Joshua, there was a period around 2000 where it seemed like every other baby boy was called it. I blame Maxine from Corrie.

Both really lovely names but I also thought Joshua and Joseph sounded lovely together too!
Samuel is a great choice though

The only drawback I can see to Samuel and Joseph is if someone decides to shorten Joseph to Sepp instead of Joe. Then you would have Sam and Sepp so you might as well have gone with Joe and Josh!
Maybe not likely though as Sepp not used in U.K. (assuming that’s where you are).

I like Samuel and either of the others. I have twins and I would recommend having names that have different initial letters and sound different so when you have to shout them in the park as they bold off in different directions they know who you are shouting!
