Joshua or Joseph for other twin?

Tom1989 · 01/08/2020 09:09

Hello again, for people who don’t know - I made a thread about what people thought of me and DW naming our twins Joshua and Joseph (nn and Josh and Joe). However, it wasn’t very well received, and I understand the reasons why, it also goes a lot deeper than what we originally had doubts about (however I don’t know why people were saying Joe is a NN for Joshua Confused).

So me and DW have decided to go with Samuel for one of the twins and one of these two for the other. Which do people prefer, Joshua or Joseph? Thanks Smile

@AllsortsofAwkward

Why would there be an issue with twins been called Joshua and Joseph. I have two sons called Joshua and Joseph. They get Josh and Joe. If you want those names have them sod everyone else.🤷‍♀️
Detailed discussion in this thread.
BluebellsGreenbells · 02/08/2020 18:27

Because it’s twee.

Curlysusie · 02/08/2020 18:26

Joseph all the way!

Samuel and Joseph!

I've always thought that Joshua is a bit of a mouthful

autumnkate · 02/08/2020 18:10

I love Joseph. I think it’s understated.

pilates · 02/08/2020 13:12

Definitely Joseph

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 02/08/2020 13:08

Joseph.

Joshua was VERY popular around the turn of the century and there are a lot of teen Joshuas around.

IckleBear · 02/08/2020 07:39

Samuel and Joseph

Samuel and Matthew ? :)

Hepzibar · 01/08/2020 22:34

Josh, Joe, Joss, Sam, Tom, Matt. Full and shortened versions are all lovely and timeless

DramaAlpaca · 01/08/2020 22:17

Samuel and Joseph.

I'm not quite so keen on Joshua, and I think you're right not to have two names starting with the same initial.

SomeWateryTart · 01/08/2020 21:09

I think Josh might be a bit noughties while both Samuel and Joseph are strong classics. Ditto Sam and Jo. They could be from any era, whereas Josh, you would maybe think more of its time. But again, you can't go wrong, as I think all are lovely.

Flappingflamingo · 01/08/2020 21:07

I have a Samuel, I also loved both Joseph and Joshua, but unfortunately they were both vetoed 😞 I know a 15 year old set of twins called sam and Joe, same age as my Sam.
I think I would have to go Samuel and Joseph

123Dancewithme · 01/08/2020 21:06

Samuel and Joseph! Sam and Joe sound great. I don’t like Josh at all.

SomeWateryTart · 01/08/2020 18:05

Samuel and Joseph! Lovely!

FWIW, I agree that Joshua and Joseph would be a bit matchy matchy.

I like Samuel and Joshua too. Can't go wrong there!

nutellatoast · 01/08/2020 17:09

I love Sam and Josh as a pair, not a big fan of Joe or Joseph, so I would say go for Joshua.

helpmum2003 · 01/08/2020 17:07

I like all 3 names, all lovely.

Prefer Samuel and Joseph

BluebellsGreenbells · 01/08/2020 17:03

Joshua is much rarer these days

There’s at least 5 in DDs year group
More in the younger years

One for shouting about in Asda

steppemum · 01/08/2020 16:44

Maybe not likely though as Sepp not used in U.K. (assuming that’s where you are).

that is really interestign, I have a (dutch) nephew called Sepp, and it was a new name to me, I have never met another one either. I assumed they had made it up, (as did my Dutch dh) i didn't realised it was an abbreviation of Joseph in some places.

I don't think it is a shortenng of Joseph in the UK at all.

Flymetothestars · 01/08/2020 16:41

Sam and Joe or Josh all sound great!

Joshua is much rarer these days - I don't know any. Looking at the statistics it's numbers are in decline.

All really great names that I don't think you'll regret

octoberfarm · 01/08/2020 16:41

Adore Samuel! I think I prefer the name Joseph to Joshua, but Samuel and Joshua go really well together. Not helpful at all, sorry Blush

WinnieLo · 01/08/2020 16:34

Sam and Josh go better imo

I think you're doing the right thing giving them both their own initial.

DoTheRunningMan · 01/08/2020 16:31

They’re all lovely names in any combination.

FeedMeSantiago · 01/08/2020 16:30

Joseph and Samuel.

BeMorePacific · 01/08/2020 13:28

I really like both! But I’d go for Jospeh, as I love Joe/Joey.
