What are your thoughts on the name Fleur? We are considering for DC1. DH loves it but I am not quite 100% yet...

Beautiful. It was on my shortlist for Dd.

LetsSplashMummy · 06/08/2020 08:23

Totally depends on your accent this one. If you are Scottish or Irish and pronounce your Rs, then it's lovely. If you don't, it's not as nice a noise, bit too throat clear-y.

Prettylittlelady · 06/08/2020 08:18

I actually really like it - although a couple of people have said it sounds like bleurgh and that really puts me off.
I know of a lonely one - she’s about 5.

Alaboudoir · 05/08/2020 11:37

Thanks all. I was worried about the eerrgh noise too but I do think it's a beautiful name. I am so drawn to short names!

I really want to like it, it looks so pretty on the page... but I don't think I like the spoken sound much. However, I just asked DH to say it and it sounds lovely in a west of Ireland accent.

GoshHashana · 01/08/2020 21:43

I've never seen the appeal of this name. Sounds like "bleurghhh".

MikeUniformMike · 01/08/2020 21:16

Is it a name in France? I thought it was from The Forsyte Saga.

WinWinnieTheWay · 01/08/2020 21:15

I know a couple, it reminds me of eurgh.

123Dancewithme · 01/08/2020 21:04

I like it!

mamaoffourdc · 01/08/2020 17:24

Love it!

MikeUniformMike · 01/08/2020 17:23

It's a friend's middle name.
A schoolfriend (we're going back a few decades) had a Ddog called Fleur nn Fleurdie.

Haworthia · 01/08/2020 14:48

It’s pretty but the English pronunciation sounds like “bleurgh!”

PlantPotting · 01/08/2020 14:47

I really like it 💐
I probably wouldn't use it as I failed French at school. But I do know one little girl Fleur and love it

fleamadonna · 01/08/2020 14:28

Reminds me of phlegm.

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 01/08/2020 14:25

It was my top girl choice but had a boy. I love it

Alaboudoir · 01/08/2020 14:24

It's growing on me...

Cute!

SpeedofaSloth · 01/08/2020 09:31

Lovely Flowers

JaJaDingDong · 01/08/2020 09:27

I think it sounds like someone being sick. Sorry OP.

Puppilangstrumpfi · 01/08/2020 09:27

I like Fleur. Very pretty.

Changeissometimesgood · 01/08/2020 09:25

I’m 50 and knew a girl called Fleur at school. Absolutely love it!

1Bobbinwinder · 01/08/2020 09:22

I have to say I don't like this one.

Pronounced with a French accent, pretty, but English...Sounds like "Fler" which is quite throat-cleary. Or maybe how my friend from Halifax would say "flo"

SnowdropFox · 01/08/2020 09:20

Beautiful name. I know one who is 12 now. Suited her as a 5 year old and doesn't sound odd as a preteen either.

ivfdreaming · 01/08/2020 09:17

I'm not a fan - always sounds like someone pretending to throw up or has something stuck in their throat

micc · 01/08/2020 09:15

My friend called her daughter Fleur :)
Such a pretty little name. I think its beautiful
