How popular is it really?

I've started to really like the name Ada and it was my great grandmas name so has family connections too. However I'm getting put off by how popular it seems to be becoming... so just wondering how many babies you know recently who have been called Ada?

My other favourite is Nina but at the moment I'm feeling drawn towards Ada for some reason!

You could dismiss Ada because it seems popular and go for something more unusual and she could still end up being one of three in her school year group.

Yes there are two girls in my DC1’s class with the same name. The name is very rare, not within the Top 250 (I checked because I was bored and because I found it quite amusing) so I bet the parents were pretty surprised.

I only know of one child called Ada, but I know of several called Ava which seems to be much more popular. I don't know any young Ninas, I think it's a great name though.

At the end of the day, you should choose a name because you love it. You could dismiss Ada because it seems popular and go for something more unusual and she could still end up being one of three in her school year group.

I don’t know any. I think it’s correct that Peaky Blinders has brought it back to life - it’s name that fits with late Victorian style that has been current for a while. I find it a bit bland but it’s fine, and I do prefer Nina.

copperoliver · 01/08/2020 14:46

Ada is a lovely name. X

PlantPotting · 01/08/2020 14:45

Nice name!

Pogmella · 01/08/2020 14:23

It was on Peaky Blinders and has crept up in popularity ever since. There’s a new series coming so it could really blow up!

JacquelineLadyBugg · 30/07/2020 09:19

I also prefer it to Nina fwiw.

JacquelineLadyBugg · 30/07/2020 09:19

I don't know any I don't think...

I know an Ida and at least one Ava, but no Adas.

Heh1991 · 30/07/2020 08:23

BeMorePacific · 30/07/2020 08:15

I have an elderly Aunty Ada, but I don't know any children called that. It's pretty.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 30/07/2020 08:01

I know 1 Ada, 2 Avas and 1 Ida - all under 6 years old....

MindyStClaire · 29/07/2020 22:16

I know of two under two. It is a really lovely name though.

Twickerhun · 29/07/2020 19:32

I know one Ada - she is 101 years young and is married to Arnold , the loveliest people you could wish to meet

Carriecotz · 29/07/2020 19:25

I don’t know any but it’s quite a nice name. A more unique name than Ava.
I also like Adeline

pinkpinecone · 29/07/2020 13:44

I think it's starting to become quite popular I certainly keep hearing it. It's a nice name.

mosquitofeast · 29/07/2020 11:35

I'm a teacher, I have never taught an Ada, Its nice. Nina always strikes me as a bit of a non-name. But It could be short for many things, Christina, Justina, Martina, etc

zigaziga · 29/07/2020 11:11

It is rising fast but I don’t personally see if becoming a Top 20 name.

SacreBleeurgh · 29/07/2020 10:52

I’ve never met one. Or a Nina for that matter. 🤔

Nixen · 29/07/2020 10:47

Bizarrely, I know two siblings who are Ada and Nina😧
They’re both under 4

florascotia2 · 29/07/2020 10:46

As pp have said, Ada has risen rapidly in popularity. Now (2018, last government official statistics) ranks 38th.

AudaCityLimits · 29/07/2020 08:31
