What names do you LOVE but would never use?

(And I don't mean you wouldn't use because there are close family members etc who have the name. I mean more that you absolutely love, but don't have the balls to use)

Mine is....

Demetrious.

I have known a few in my time and absolutely love the name, but not sure I could do it...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Always liked Alexais or Beech for a boy and Elizavetya or Antonia for a girl. One of my ancestors was called Bonaventura, definitely not brave enough to reuse that but if he had been called Thor I might have had to insist

I quite fancied Malta for a girl until the character in a book I was reading with that name turned out to be a wrong un.

Overallthissh · 29/07/2020 17:58

Zephyr

raindrop83 · 29/07/2020 17:47

Another one for Clementine! 🙋🏻‍♀️

latheritup · 29/07/2020 17:43

Clementine

DemDem94 · 29/07/2020 17:41

For me it’s Annabelle.. Dp won’t allow it because of the Annabelle doll.. 🤷‍♀️

CaffiSaliMali · 29/07/2020 17:35

Esyllt - beautiful name but the letter Ll means it won't work in England and would be mispronounced as Ess-ilt. It's Welsh for Iseult.

Iseult - there's already an Issy in the family. Also, there's no way on God's earth that DH would agree to this name Grin

Morven - Alas, I am not Scottish enough to use this. Same applies to Ishbel and Eilidh. DH would never agree to any of these anyway.

Natasha, Anastasia, Katya and Constantin - no Russian heritage.

Aveline - no French heritage and DH doesn't like it.

StLuciasdream · 29/07/2020 15:37

Love Orlando for a boy and Anastasia for a girl ♥️
I'm not ruling them out.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 29/07/2020 15:23

Loved Seth but DH and pretty much every other member of both of our collective families hated it. DH and I agreed to give each other 3 vetoes and he emphatically used his for Seth....

Also really regret not giving DS the middle name Thor. (My GGgrandfather was called Thor and it seems almost criminal not to reuse it Grin)

Lorelei

hollygoflightly · 29/07/2020 11:22

It's been said, but I love Horatio too. I think if we'd lived in Kensington or somewhere I would have gone for it.
And there's an Ezekiel in my son's class, I think it's a great name.

missbunnyrabbit · 29/07/2020 11:18

Athena, Rowena, Ariadne... not too 'out there', but would need a bit of bravery to use, I think!

Also love Casper and Caspian..

OverTheRainbow88 · 29/07/2020 11:09

Edith ( English is not my first language and I struggle to pronounce the th properly)

Tighe · 29/07/2020 11:09

Lysander

PrimeraVez · 29/07/2020 11:09

Hero for a girl, Magnus for a boy

VenusClapTrap · 29/07/2020 11:07

@Stargazer87 we used to have a babysitter called Clementine. There are a few about.

emilybrontescorsett · 29/07/2020 10:49

October, Anastasia, Eustacia , Gabriel, Keir

Stargazer87 · 29/07/2020 10:46

@HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime It's funny, there's always quite a lot of posts on here about the name Clementine but then I never hear of anyone actually using it and I always wonder why?! I'm expecting my first little girl and really want to use it just not sure what's holding me back??

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 29/07/2020 10:13

@stargazer87 go for it, looking at this list if we had all been brave Clementine would be a hughly popular / common name so people must like it.

I also like Theodore / Theodosia

ButterflyOfFreedom · 29/07/2020 10:09

Yes, Dorothea!

Also Amos & Roberta, Linus & Ramone (latter for a girl)

Morred · 29/07/2020 08:46

Caspian
Maxim
Willem
Rowena (I think you have to be quite stately to pull off being a Rowena, otherwise it goes a bit purple scarves hedge witch)
Theodora (I don’t like Dora so seems unkind to insist on full name)
Dorothea
Georgiana pronounces Jor-jay-na

ButterflyOfFreedom · 29/07/2020 08:38

Cornelius

Stargazer87 · 29/07/2020 08:07

Clementine and Rafferty. Although seriously considering Clementine for my little girl, just need to be brave!
