(And I don't mean you wouldn't use because there are close family members etc who have the name. I mean more that you absolutely love, but don't have the balls to use)

Mine is....

Demetrious.

I have known a few in my time and absolutely love the name, but not sure I could do it...

Isaiah.

People considering Clementine - I do know one, she’s 9. I think it’s really pretty but perhaps people are put off by the song My darling Clementine (which is sad and also rather mocking)?

@Palavah Athena is mine too! Are you a 9-1-1 fan by any chance?

Gloria

I know a Clementine too. She is very posh. Her sister is Celeste.

TorchesTorches · 29/07/2020 20:20

Ursula!

I will use it if I ever have a cat, though.

Twickerhun · 29/07/2020 20:19

I wanted Tabitha Catherine for my little DD butDH vetoed my tabby cat and realistically I might not have been brave enough.

AdriannaP · 29/07/2020 20:18

@playthegame

My DH wanted to call our son Thor! I was definitely not brave enough. Plus my older ones have traditional/old names so didn't think it would match their names.
My friend is called Thor but he is Swedish!
AdriannaP · 29/07/2020 20:17

Persephone- I've only recently learnt how to pronounce this and I love it 😂

Zanthe ( dunno if thats the correct spelling)

Basil- Always loved it and DH grandfathers name but I just hate the NN Bas!

Carriecotz · 29/07/2020 19:02

I really liked Octavia but it was vetoed!

HeronLanyon · 29/07/2020 18:45

I know A clementine and Clemency aand an otteline - Clem, Clemmie and Tilly and Linnet variously used over their lifetimes as nicknames. Always think of them in same category if posh slightly old fashioned good names.
Also a male Clemmo - don’t know him well assume shirt for Clement (now there’s a name you don’t hear not sure I have since Attlee !!

JanewaysBun · 29/07/2020 18:39

I know a Clementine
I loved but was vetoed by DH Lorelei and Athena (although DD does have an unusual name)

I loved Clover but not brave enough due to the cow/butter

PoodleMoth · 29/07/2020 18:35

Some beautiful names here. I went with the 2 names I thought were a bit out there and haven't regretted it! Both children suit their names and get compliments wherever they go (one name is HATED on mumsnet and the other used to be but seems liked more now on threads!). Clementime is a lovely name to the pp that asked and I don't think it's out there at all! One name I did like but admit is a bit out there is Pixie it wasn't at the top of my list, maybe 3rd!

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 29/07/2020 18:32

Valentino

JacquelineLadyBugg · 29/07/2020 18:18

I didn't list it, but I do love Clementine. I'm not keen on Clem or Clemmy as it reminds me too much of the word clammy.

Not sure what nn you could use otherwise...Tina isn't to my taste either...Teeny? What if she's tall? Minty?

Clementine itself is beautiful though. I would just become That Mum who never lets anyone shorten her dd's name! I remember an Alexandra at school and woe betide you if you ever called her Alex in front of her mum! It had to be Alexandra.

Stargazer87 · 29/07/2020 18:15

As someone who's really undecided on using the name Clementine please can I ask why people wouldn't use it? It's clearly liked but underused?

JacquelineLadyBugg · 29/07/2020 18:15

Wilfred because my DH vetoed it!

Nature names, like:

Rain
Star
River
Winter
January
Maple
Briar
Juniper

Because they are maybe a bit too earthy for me and DEFINITELY too earthy for DH.
