(And I don't mean you wouldn't use because there are close family members etc who have the name. I mean more that you absolutely love, but don't have the balls to use)

Mine is....

Demetrious.

I have known a few in my time and absolutely love the name, but not sure I could do it...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Augustus (Gloop)
Atlas (a bit too out there)
Brontë (as above)
Aurelia (sounds terrible in our thick glaswegian accents)
Adeline (as above)
Genevieve (mispellings and mispronounations would do my head in)

Twattergy · 02/08/2020 18:34

Winston
Jethro (Jet) I love it but think I'd feel like a nob shouting it in the park
Milan (said as east Europeans pronounce it but in UK people would say it like the Italian city which sounds awful)

blosstree · 02/08/2020 18:32

I'm from North East England, OH is from Wiltshire @Rainy88

Rainy88 · 02/08/2020 18:28

@blosstree I'm interested in the regional thing now...I'm on the south coast, how about you and your OH?

blosstree · 02/08/2020 18:23

Honestly use it! It's beautiful, even if people think it's a brave choice to start with, they'll get used to it.

Also - if you didn't think it was a 'brave' choice, chances are you live somewhere where it isn't regarded as such! I'm jealous so go for it Grin

Rainy88 · 02/08/2020 18:19

@blosstree I love the name and was thinking of using it but now I'm questioning myself with so many people referring to it as a brave choice!

blosstree · 02/08/2020 18:16

@Rainy88 I think it depends on where you live. I've mentioned Clementine a few times in these sorts of conversations where I'm from, and been looked at as if I have two heads.

Where my OH is from, everyone says how lovely it is.

blosstree · 02/08/2020 18:14

Atticus
Esmeralda
Lysander
Clementine
Isadora
Wilbur

ILoveAnOwl · 02/08/2020 14:16

Fenella. I'm overweight and worried she'd be also and be known as 'Fenella the Elephant'...

CatsArePeopleToo · 02/08/2020 14:07

Hamza - would be a bit weird

newreality1 · 02/08/2020 13:03

Rhodri

Chocoqueen · 02/08/2020 10:45

Saxon

AdriannaP · 02/08/2020 10:37

Skylar or Skyler - would use it for boy or girl

newreality1 · 02/08/2020 10:22

Agatha
Aurelia
Trixie
Beau
Keir
Elijah

MamaDane · 02/08/2020 09:36

Strange there's this opinion of Conrad here 🤔 It's gotten very popular in Denmark. I personally don't like the name but don't see the issue with it?

MamaDane · 02/08/2020 09:35

Sunny (for a boy)
Galahad
Lear

MsTSwift · 02/08/2020 09:19

I met an extremely upper class elderly man who lives in a Manor House named Gary. You can’t make any assumptions!

Rainy88 · 02/08/2020 09:03

I don't understand the Clementine issue either, it's a beautiful name and you don't have to be any class to have it!

Puppilangstrumpfi · 02/08/2020 08:31

I can confirm he is very much UC. I think you have to be to pull it off to be fair.

No, you don't have to be any 'class' to be named Clementine or Tarquin or any other name!

I don't understand all this need for 'bravery' either?

Shannith · 02/08/2020 00:08

As is most definitely not pretentious middle class. Mummy would be horrified.

Shannith · 02/08/2020 00:07

@GorillaManilla I know a Tarquin and I can confirm he is very much UC. I think you have to be to pull it off to be fair.

OwlDoll · 02/08/2020 00:04

Tuppence

Mopani · 02/08/2020 00:01

Star and Damon. Not really out there as such but wouldn't ever use!

Firefretted · 02/08/2020 00:00

Rhodri - love it but no Welsh heritage.
Rufus - love it but it would be inaccurate as any child of mine would be highly unlikely to have red hair!

battletoads · 01/08/2020 23:56

My DS has one of these names! It never gets mentioned on these threads, so I'm pleased to hear someone loves it. I chose it because I was quite young and naive - I just thought about the names I liked the sound of, rather than what others would think about it. But it's nice to know that other people might be thinking that I was 'brave' for using it Grin.
