What names do you LOVE but would never use?

(And I don't mean you wouldn't use because there are close family members etc who have the name. I mean more that you absolutely love, but don't have the balls to use)

Mine is....

Demetrious.

I have known a few in my time and absolutely love the name, but not sure I could do it...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

As a Clementine myself I would recommend it! I never had anyone with the same name at school and the shortened versions Clemmie / Clem gives lots of options for nicknames should you want them.

Saoirse. I'm of Irish descent and love it. But DH - probably rightly- feels she would have a lifetime of correcting people. I still love it though.

Winter. That was a hard veto by DH.

AdriannaP · 05/08/2020 19:50

Wilhelmina (call her Billie) - would have loved it but DH was against it!!
Rudolph
Laurin (boys name)

@micc I agree Jane is such a lovely name but it’s been spoilt by people saying plain Jane, I don’t think it’s aged well but I think it’s sweet

micc · 05/08/2020 09:04

Oh I have thought of one that I love but wouldn't use!!

Jane, such a sweet name, I loved Tarzan so really love this name. But I worry she would be plain Jane. Plus with my DD with a long, more out there name I would feel a bit sad for poor Jane Haha

Theolonious
Mariska

So many people writing Clementine!!
My DD is Clementine!! Go for it gals!!! Hahaha she gets compliments everywhere she goes and she really suits it. Shes so sunny and bright 💛🍊

I am obsessed with the name Cherry but my OH said no.. apparently I'm not aloud to name my children after a fruit bowl? Unfair.

I also love the name Marigold! I'm really not afraid of using anything it's my OH holding me back!!

One of our DDs would have been Ezekiel if she’d been a boy. It’s my name that got away if you like. It’s the one name which I’m really sad to not have had a chance to use.

My one I wouldn’t have used would have been Linus. The only reason we wouldn’t have used it though was that DH vetoed it strongly due to the Peanuts connotations. I still love it. (But not as much as Ezekiel)

I would have loved to use Irish names (I’m Northern Irish) but didn’t because it would have caused a lifetime of headaches for us and for the DC due to DH’s family being English and the kind who would be totally incapable of pronouncing Irish names, or even attempting to do so without a song and dance. I kind of regret that too - esp for my girls.

iloveyoubutilovememore · 03/08/2020 13:16

Valentine.

Valleydad99 · 03/08/2020 09:57

Helen - am classicist so people would not be able to avoid the "of troy" thoughts. But absolutely love the name.

Also "Wendy". I love the name but seems mightily old fashioned right now.

RosaBaby2 · 03/08/2020 09:55

I love Ira

chunkyrun · 03/08/2020 09:50

Soo many

Carey - my other half vetoed it
Lorenzo - sounds silly in our strong northern accent
Ira
Shay
Shilo

Olympia
Artemis
Scout- we used it as a pet name 😁

RobinRose · 03/08/2020 09:49

I really like Maurice for a boy (pronounced mor-EECE)

Louise0701 · 03/08/2020 07:53

Valentina & Zephan. They wouldn’t suit our children or our surname
