Help with boy's name

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 27/07/2020 21:49

Really stuck for a boys name. Don't mind James / Jamie but don't love it. Quite like Arthur but have been vetoed. Can't bear Arlo, Otis type names and don't like cutesy old fashioned abbreviations. Or surnames as first names. Or anything that is suggestive of far more interesting heritage than he'll have because it sounds pretentious. And if anyone suggests anytjing like Quentin I will actually cry or assume you're joking. Please please help me!!

I know you have your list but how about Marcus? It's one of my favourites.

We have a James (Jimmy, I don't like Jamie) and if DD was a boy she'd have been Frederick (Freddie)

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 03/08/2020 10:31

Lots of Johns in family already @daisypond, although I do like it. Thanks everyone else for the other suggestions too. Actually excited about choosing a name now which is massive progress!

That’s a nice shortlist. Have you considered John?

finallychangedmyusername · 01/08/2020 06:34

Nice shortlist! Samuel, Daniel and Jacob are some of my favourite boys names.

Can I also suggest these that haven't yet been suggested:

Aaron
Joel
Gavin
Martin
Seth

RiverWest · 30/07/2020 02:13

My boys are called Benjamin, Mckenzie and Christopher.

userabcname · 29/07/2020 06:53

From your shortlist I love Benjamin and Jacob. Both firm favourites of mine.

Jessabean · 29/07/2020 06:21

Lovely shortlist!

James/Jamie
Jack
Or Ewan would get my vote.

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 28/07/2020 21:43

I like Jasper (but already taken by a friend)... and freely admit there's no rhyme or reason to it. Prefer Dominic to Gabriel but again couldn't tell you why! I think for quite a few of the names suggested that I wouldn't consider it's more due to associating the names with people I already know than actually disliking them, even if I like the people involved they then become their names rather than a neutral one that I could see the baby making his own. Luckily didn't know anyone with DD's name which again made it a no brainer unlike this...arg!

That said I think we do have an actual shortlist from this thread now so thankyou all so much for your help!

James Jamie
Benjamin Ben
Toby
Jack
Jacob Jake
Ewan
Samuel Sam
Daniel

I'm assuming you don't like names like Casper, Austin, Jasper? Or Otto, Arlo and Milo? But just thought I'd check as I'd also have assumed you wouldn't like Leo or Rowan given they're both very trendy and a load of similar names in top 100 like Roman which don't seem like your style.

How about Dominic or Gabriel?

Could have written your post myself a few years back! We went with Ewan James. Other names we liked (although some we couldn't use due to our strange surname)...

Rory
George
Laurie
Patrick
Felix
Toby
Elliot
Will

Good luck.

If you liked Ewan how about

Robin
Philip
Alistair
Adrian

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 27/07/2020 23:07

Thanks! Out of those Ewan and Toby stand out the most. I think all this is partly because with DD we had a name we both loved straight away and there was never any need for debate so I'm a bit put out that the same thing hasn't happened this time!

We’ve really struggled on a boy’s name and have agreed on Rory...
We’ve been through the baby book so many times that the pages are tearing! Good luck!
