I am in love with the name Digby for for my ds who is due in 8 weeks. It's the only name I like and has been top from thr beginning but i just don't know if I'm being ridiculous and the hormones have gone into over drive?
My DH likes it too and has suggested the name Walter as an alternative which I quite like.
My DH has now said he won't discuss names until the baby comes and we can see what he might look like (I feel I may have been driving my usually very laidback DH quite potty with the name situation!!)

There was a Digby in my DC's nursery. He must be 6ish now. He was from a nice family. They looked very 'Frugi', as in the scandi kids' clothes label. Nobody ever commented negatively about his name. The only thing people said was how cute it was! (They were teeny, so cute was apt).

I really like the name Digby. It's clunky / cool imo, but definitely not so out there that it's silly.

Other suggestions would be:

Wilfred
Rufus
Rafferty
Fergus
Barnaby

But Digby is lovely. I'm not keen on Walter, but it's ok.

daisypond · 28/07/2020 22:45

Love Walter. Not so keen on Digby.

Tillygetsit · 28/07/2020 22:27

I was in the same class as a Digby at school. He was very polite and quiet. Makes me think of him.

emilybrontescorsett · 28/07/2020 21:26

I associate Digby with a dog.
I don't like Walter. I went to school with one and he hated his name.

heartonastring · 28/07/2020 18:39

Ooh I've never watched made in Chelsea so never made the association.
I guess it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. I still don't have any other alternatives that my DH and I agree on. Digby is still top of the list

I know a Walter. His parents call him Wally though and I’m not keen on that. I prefer Walter to Digby though.

lljkk · 28/07/2020 15:32

We don't share taste in names, OP.
I guess main thing is, if you choose something unusual, be confident the child will grown into it & make it their own. Short of "a boy named Sue" you'll make it work.

Whatsyourflava · 28/07/2020 15:28

I don't like it. There's a Digby on Made in Chelsea and even all the self proclaimed Toffs on there make fun of his name on the tv programme itself and chortle that "it's a silly dogs name". Digby himself is extremely attractive. His name is stupid.

Walter is lovely though

Rosesarereds · 28/07/2020 13:17

I like it! But I'm not so keen on Walter.

heartonastring · 28/07/2020 08:33

Thanks for all the replies! Feeling a bit more confidnt about our choices now.
@Whatthebloodyell I promise to never dress him in red trousers but the imagery really made me laugh!

ISWUM that the name is cute for a baby but perhaps not suitable for a teenager but I think he would probably have a nickname by then!
My eldest is named Fred and someone once commented that it was a great name for his 40's and beyond and not great for a baby. However he totally suits it and he is never not cute!

I think Digby is a great name and much better suited to a teenager than say Teddie or Alfie, both of which seem popular for babies these days.

Whatthebloodyell · 27/07/2020 23:19

I think Digby is terrible. I can only picture a red trousered, overweight antiques dealer from Marlow.

BeMorePacific · 27/07/2020 23:14

I don’t love it for a teenager. But think it’s cute for a baby x

AragornsManlyStubble · 27/07/2020 21:15

I grew up with a boy named Diggory, I prefer Digby I think! Much better than Walter.

SadSack39 · 27/07/2020 21:10

Im not keen on walter.. it will be shortened to Walt and its a little unattractive, sorry

Digby is really sweet and unusual

Shelby30 · 27/07/2020 21:09

Ok I'm first thinking digby dragon the kids programme.

To me it sounds like a dogs name though, sorry.

sarahc336 · 27/07/2020 21:07

I love it!!

heartonastring · 27/07/2020 19:48

@catenthusiast haha, I never thought about it like that, but now that you mention it, Walter sounds much more posher when I say it that Digby!

catenthusiast · 27/07/2020 19:37

Personally I prefer Walter - and I have met several dogs called Digby - but I don’t think it’s horrible. I can’t help but say it in a fake posh accent though Blush

dollypops15 · 27/07/2020 19:11

Go with what ever you and your partner like. It's not hormones hun. Everyone said hat to me when I wanted to call my baby Dolly. Which I went ahead with and 2 years later I'm still so in love with the name

Lavenderblues · 27/07/2020 19:08

I know more dogs called Jack, Oscar and Tom!

heartonastring · 27/07/2020 18:34

Thanks for the replies. I thought digby might be too out there. My mil (who I love and respect dearly) keeps saying it's a dogs name so wondered if i would be silly to use it.

Lavenderblues · 27/07/2020 18:22

Digby is a lovely name. You and your dh like it. Great! Where's the issue? Smile

SweatyAndyFromWoking · 27/07/2020 17:36

I like it. Its not that crazy.

heartonastring · 27/07/2020 17:19

Haha thank you @TheVanguardsix he is so patient so I know it's his way of saying to just relax!
I was just interested in what others thought of my name choice or if I'm being silly.
